Post-Game Talk: Leafs win 4-3!

Credit to the team’s maturity level for sticking with it. Last game before Christmas must be tough to get up for when they’ve played so well.

Kampf with another outstanding game. Holmberg continues to impress. Holl playing the best I’ve seen him play. The entire defence has been terrific, although there were a few breakdowns in the third period. Engvall looking like he cares. Matthews line was great again.

I think Giordano had another weak game. The rest is going to do him good, he’s been great for us. Samsonov not at his best either, 3 goals on 17 shots.

Overall good, but messy win.

I think 2LW is our obvious weakness in the lineup though. Marner I think needs another play driving winger on his line.

Not to take anything away from Nylander and Marner, but it’s so impressive to me that Matthews is legit effective with whatever players you give him. He made it work playing with Hyman and Brown, or Johnsson and Kapanen, Hyman and Marner, Bunting and Nylander, legit doesn’t matter.

Like there’s a reason that most analytics models like GAR and xGAR rate him so highly. Whenever he’s on the ice, he wins his minutes. Even when the offense isn’t there, he makes sure the opposing offense is equally ineffective lol.

Those last 10 minutes taint was was otherwise a pretty dominant effort. Held the Flyers to under 10 shots and controlled possession with a lot of chances. A couple of defensive hiccups leading to some shots from high quality areas. Unfortunately they were a bit soft and Samsonov stumbled a bit.

We played well, were the much better team. Didn’t have puck luck but still won in regulation. Don’t see too much to complain about in this game … or this season really. Other than a slow first few weeks, we’ve been absolutely outstanding for ~2 months now. Solid way to enter the break!
