Are those that were predicting doom and gloom a few weeks back, calling for Berube, the system, this player, that player, generally miserable.. just wondering if they've been talked off a ledge yet? The team is still finding its legs and they are 2 points from top of Conference.. Ho Hum.

It's a good thing there are calm experienced fans around Leafs Nation who could see the underlying positives despite the early mixed results GLG.

Every postgame is a snapshot in time of what's happening in front of our eyes, so this "I told you so attitude" doesn't really make sense. I can predict more great times ahead and more crisis ahead too and both statements will be correct. The big question is whether the ups and downs will produce a different team when the playoff stress tests occur.

When the team plays up and down through 6 games and then plays like shit game 7, of course it's "about that".
The issue is that their style of play always resulted in a series going too long, so you were left hoping for the best in a game 7. If they played a simpler game, with better penalty killing, a few of those series would not have gone 7 games. Instead, they kept trying to succeed through possession and permitted play, and no matter how many times it didn't work, the coach never used the next season to change their style of play. So it was rinse and repeat. That won't happen with berube.

Of course they will and the PP will be back to one being "get the puck over to 34," which creates the standing around thing they do. That results in the extra time they take moving the puck. This allows the two forwards to creep to the blueline and eventually force one of the point guys into a mistake thus killing vital seconds.

And besides it's probably in the contract

They were absolutely horrible against Ottawa, I'd say their level of play is inconsistent as usual so too early to draw any conclusions. With this core we've always been a good regular season team, we'll see what happens in the playoffs.
They have had a couple down games but I think their consistency has been better and the games where they do play well, have had better overall structure.

You always hope for the best, but more often than not we've gotten complete garbage instead. There is no excuse for losing every single series that came down to one deciding game, none.

I agree the overall structure is better. Consistency's been kind of meh though, if it wasn't then we'd be better than 10th overall ATM. JMHO.

Busy weekend checking in late.
A couple of thoughts:

-If the Reaves hit happened years ago, it would not even have been a penalty.
-Hate to blame the victim, but Nurse put himself and Reaves in a tough spot.
-Reaves was in a tough spot, wants to play hard and take the body, missed the moving target and ultimately made head contact.
- 5 games is correct.

He was playing for the pass. Left foot on the post, getting ready to push off and cross when the pass came. As someone said on reddit yesterday, there are uncontacted tribes on far-away islands that also thought Marner was going to pass.
If he was playing for the pass shouldn’t he have had that post covered? If Marner was going to pass it would have had to be to his left, as he was on the right.

If one of our D gave a pitiful effort like he did on the 2nd McMann goal...we would be screaming for him to be traded...he is awful defensively...my God...

Yep!

Prime Jake Gardiner was better than Bouchard will ever be. That guy is a problem. I have no confidence in anyone on that Edmonton roster other than McDrai. Without those two, they might be the worst team in the NHL.
