Some players just will never win it all imo, Auston Matthews seems to be following that same path as Jumbo as a guy who destroys the regular season but chokes in the playoffs.
If you are building a team for the Cup, you take a Barkov +Thachuk, Eichel + Stone or Mackinnon, + Rantannen duo over a Matthews + Marner.

Not that the trade boards are experts at evaluating trade values, but the talk of Marcus Petersson easily fetching a 1st and/or a good prospect is still kind of crazy to me.

Unlike Montour and Theo, who I think clearly had flashes of high-end talent, he seemed like bottom 4 guy through and through with us. Good for him for getting there, I guess.

I think not ending up winning a cup is the key here. I think the way he's looking at this is that he asked to be traded from the place where obviously his heart is at to here to chase the dream of winning the cup. Sounds like he absolutely loves Vancouver and Canucks and that's ok. Not winning the cup is obviously a big disappointment for him and I can understand it. Not sure if this necessarily means that he didn't enjoy or like it here. He's probably just thinking that if he wasn't going to win the cup anyway, then he would've preferred to stay as a Canuck for life.

But who knows really. I absolutely loved this guy as a Duck and it truly stings that they weren't able to win the cup when the window was open.

i know there's hard feelings from kesler towards the ducks medical staff (understandable)

but i didn't take his comment as a slight against the ducks. if they had won the cup in 15 or 17, he wouldn't have regretted asking for a trade. hindsight is always 20/20 and the canucks were going nowhere at the time he was traded

When he was done here he packed up, moved back to Michigan and I don't believe he's ever been seen around the Ducks since. At least he was playing competitive hockey with the Ducks, the Canucks were a mess after he left. He got exactly what he wanted at the time. I agree this is entirely 20/20 hindsight.

He is much, much more associated with the Canucks so it makes sense he's trying to get back in their good graces, it was not a pleasant breakup tho lol. That franchise has a history of revering good, but not great, players like they were franchise changers.

i mean, you can't really blame him for not wanting anything to do with the ducks after how the medical staff handled his injury. they just pumped him up with painkillers and he ended up with crohn's or some other serious gastro illness. he only played a handful of seasons with the ducks anyways, so its not really surprising he'd prefer to be associated with the canucks

It is still on the medical team to provide ethical care. They are supposed to advocate for their patients, even at times from themselves.
