Post-Game Talk: Leafs win 4-3 against Rangers

Another solid defensive effort. Stolarz was good but his rebound control was not good. Second line was great. Tanev is brilliant again.

Third line terrible. Laughton still useless. Kampf needs another view from the press box. Rielly another deserved -1.
Kampf was solid Laughton wasn’t couple undeserved dashes stolarz wasn’t really good tonight

McMann turns a Softy Swede and MrMumbles into McMenn tonight! HoBoy I tell ya!

The problem with that third line is that you won't be able to trust it in a close playoff game given their defensive weaknesses.
That's why we gotta beg that Laughton settles in here. Dude is clearly fighting it, but this is the guy Tre singled out for this role. Would be nice if he got a couple breaks to go his way here, and got back to contributing as advertised - being a bit of a dick out there, grinding other teams down and playing some dzone and pk with more confidence.

I have to say this.... for all the shit that Tavares gets on this forum, I cant think of a more consistent Leaf this year than him. Every one else seems to have cold and hot streaks, and Tavares just seems to produce win or loose.... and all I hear about is his age and slowness.... but we have quicker and younger guys on this roster that get the same ice time and do 1/3rd as much.

EDIT: The dude is still playing like a captain.

McCabe and Tanev have been the best legit top pairing we've had in recent memory. Fingers crossed that they can both stay healthy going into the playoffs. They're crucial to our success.
Since Markov-yuskevich
And Macoun-lefebvre
And kaberle-McCabe
And Kaberle-svehla
And McCabe-leetch

Give him time. He will be good in the playoffs.

What you see is what you get with laughton. I knew it months ago when he was first rumored to come here. Frost was the move to make but he went to Calgary

I will never see JT like a captain. He has been great though and was a better captain than AM is showing now. That being said Captain's cut their teeth in the playoffs so I hope AM ups his game and passion to lead and win.

JT is twice as good as last season as well. I thought he was done, not gonna lie.

He did purposefully snow Shesty near the beginning of the game, that's pretty dick'ish, playoff sorta thing.

Definitely missed the boat and should have been the ones to pull the trigger on Farabee and Frost instead of Laughton.

Too late now, and hoping for the best with Laughton, but very much enjoy the addition of Carlo.

At this point Laughton needs to be on the 3rd line with Domi and Robertson and hope they can find some kind/any kind of chemistry between now and the playoffs.

Terrific consistent effort on a back to back after a significant when the night before. If there was a game for a letdown, this one had it written all over it.

Glad to that Rempe was out of the game. Not going to lie that I hate seeing that goof running around like an idiot trying to injure. It’s the last kind of guy we need to be having to deal with at this point in time.

On to the next and hopefully this 60 minute effort continues, led by Tavares. That guy is something else. Happy to see it for him.

I would give Laughton another look on the 3rd line at C/LW. He seems to be getting more comfortable in blue and white now.
Agreed, and don't really get the excessive hate he's getting. He's shown flashes and is clearly adjusting.. some people have completely written off because I guess Leafs fans need to have something to bitch about on a 3 game win streak at the top of the division.

Farabee and Frost are probably non-starters cap-wise. For me I would have tried to get Boston to do full retention on Carlo for 1st + Minten + Greb (but preferably a smaller asset) and just given up a 2nd for Tanev. Lorentz-Kampf-Tanev is a coherent line with an obvious job and we keep the 1st to try to package for a younger middle-6 C next year.

I would have also gone for an expanded trade with Boston for Carlo and Geekie. No question though that Carlo was a big and much needed get for 2RHD.

I have a feeling Tanev comes here as a UFA if the numbers make sense.

We still need a young 3C option who we hope can develop into a 2C, while resigning Tavares with plans that as he gets older he slides down into 3C. It’s why I wasn’t overly attached to Minten, who I didn’t think would be able to go beyond 3C, and if we did add another young On my way!, there wouldn’t have been room for him.

Interested to hear who you think should be targeted for young 3C. Fogelhund got me interested in Krebs and Cates in Philadelphia was an interesting option but I think they hold onto him now.
