Matthew’s reaction to Reaves fight was the highlight of the night

He has not been the same since he got hit the other night. It rattled him.

He was floating before that too, imo

They played maybe 8-10 minutes of inspired hockey.

One positive I noticed was how much fight the Leafs D showed in boxing out and keeping forwards from out of the crease. Sammy was able to see everything tonight.

That is the type of battling defense that is needed in stretches in the playoffs.

Otherwise, an unmemorable game.

That being said I was impressed with their third period. Quiet and composed, minimal second chances. What you need to see really.

He seemed out of gas through the game and definitely made poor efforts. I'd say it was more of an off-game where it was pretty meaningless. He seemed dialed in in 3rd defensively.

They always make such a big deal on the broadcasts about how young the habs D is and how impressive it is to have them playing in the NHL so early in their careers, yet they always seem to gloss over the fact that Montreal sucks defensively and most of these guys won’t be part of the team when/if they finally turn the corner from their rebuild

They are in the NHL this early purely because Montreal is bad. Not sure how this seems to be lost on them.

Lack of an empty netter opportunity is on Keefe. I have no idea why we had Bertuzzi out there in the last minute defending the lead. I’ve been much happier with Bert the last couple months, but that’s simply not a role he should be in

They need to be hot going into the playoffs. I'm not going to fuss over these games in the next 2-3 weeks. But this is a good start. If only the PP could improve by then.

He's actually been a beast blocking shots and disrupting floating passes. I think he's a fine player to have in the last few minutes of a game like that. His foot speed definitely a weakness though.

That’s the big weakness imo. I also think he mismanages the puck sometimes like he did tonight on that shift.

Tie the period, win the period, tie the period. That's how you win hockey games. Very solid game all around from Sammy to Matty. Love beating the Habs and beating up the Habs. Onto the next one
