It's why it never made sense why some said regular season doesn't matter. You need to build up for the playoffs. Only 2 games, but Leafs maybe in playoff mode now.

Well, the point is that the regular season is only a barometer. A training ground for the team to find their identity and lineup. As the games inch closer to the playoffs, naturally players will (should) increase their intensity and focus. All of it, designed to more easily transition into the "real season".

This team was never supposed to be a team trying to sneak in, they were supposed to be in this position. Playoffs will be where the real commitment and sacrifice begins and the Gamers show up.

I dunno, hard to tell how good the Avs (and Vegas( are though. They are in the weakest division, so lopsided with the Blues having fallen off a cliff and the bottom 4 teams are just putrid.

I mean, are the Wild (who were 35-27-7 and 2nd last in the central last year) really a 30-13-3 team? Blues/Yotes/Shark/Kings/Ducks have been a clown show this year.

We can win in multiple ways and when we get halfway decent goaltending we look like an extremely difficult puzzle to solve with a good mix of skill, speed, physicality, grit and leadership

Great to see, as an aside have we gone from sweethearts who won't win because we won't physically engage to goons over the space of 2 games? And people call Leafs fans bipolar

The geriatric boys were terrific. Simmonds has found his ornery side again and Thornton had a burr under his saddle.

Terrific game by the team. Nice to see Campbell steady again. Also nice to see Holl settling down and concentrating on simplifying his defensive game instead of wrecklessly jumping into the play.

Also nice to see Sandin with time on the no. 1 power play. That’s what I like about about Keefe. Not afraid to change things up. Rielly had a miserable PP performance at the end of the second. That change should be permanent. Sandin is so poised and smart with the puck and actually has a decent shot.

If there's 30 seconds left in the game I don't care if Thornton cross-checks him across the arm, breaking his ulna. Whatever. Just don't do it with three or four minutes left. Have the patience to wait the extra 2-3 minutes until the game's out of reach. You can let em know "who's daddy" in your terms, just wait for the right time.

Games like this make me miss the mid 70’s. Tiger Williams, Kurt Walker, Scott Garland, Jim Korn, Broad Street Bullies, bench clearing brawls...sigh. For one night Simmonds and Thornton brought me back.

Why did Thornton take that stupid penalty to give up the PP when they were defending a two goal lead? I get defending yourself but you're a vet, be smart about it. Could've gone after him after the game or at least in the last minute when it's more secure.

Also did you guys like never watch a playoff series with SJ? He isn't as dirty as Getzlaf but Thornton's always been a feisty player.

such a fun game tonight. the jets are such crybaby wannabe tough guys. they flop about and pretend to be injured after every hit, and magically they're fine every single time lol, yeah ok. maybe stop acting like clowns and just play the game.

loved jumbo's game tonight, eventually ehlers just couldn't keep up in the box luls.

Thornton was hating on them because of the laughable whining they did. The least physical team in the league just put them in their stinkin place.
Dominated them every game this year and they know it. Ehlers was diving and faking and P!ssed Joe off with his greasy yellow fakes. That’s whats going on there. I like this side of Thornton and Simmonds is right there behind him if it goes there. Matthews was ugly a couple times tonight too.
Kerfoot another good game. He’s been so consistent all season and has put together a nice season
