Post-Game Talk: Leafs win 4-1

Games like this make me miss the mid 70’s. Tiger Williams, Kurt Walker, Scott Garland, Jim Korn, Broad Street Bullies, bench clearing brawls...sigh. For one night Simmonds and Thornton brought me back.
We had other more recent teams that were reminiscent of the good days. Orr, McClaren, Kadri.
Corson, Domi, Tucker, Roberts was a nasty group to play against.....yikes!

Stale? It's nauseating. I wish McClean would take his traveling woke show on the road and retire from HNIC.

It’s not just McLean. It seems the entire league has gone Uber woke.

I realize they’re trying to expand the appeal of the sport but obsessive pandering and virtue signalling isn’t the way to do it. The whole emphasis on identity politics is quite frankly very uncomfortable, particularly in sports which many people see as an escape from reality for 2 hours.

The best way to expand the appeal of the sport is to improve the entertainment value of the sport and to ice a winning team.

It could be worse. At least they aren’t pandering to the CCP like the NBA.

If they want to call us the dirty Leafs team I Love it
I call this a leaf team that doesn't back down

Mad dog Thornton Love it
Walk the line Simmons
Brick wall Sandin
Crunch Muzzin

I Love this team know wait till Folingo gets comfortable and when Hyman gets back

We are know set for the playoffs
Sandin for not playing alot of games this year has looked great
Brooks is a keeper great game

For some fans on here that think we didn't need some tough player Mmmmm exactly what we needed.

Brooks has surpassed Engvall on the depth chart. Neither are star players but Brooks has a high hockey IQ and can actually create some offense. Engvall has better physical tools but makes low percentage plays most of the time.

That 2002 series against the Islanders was easily the most violent series I've ever seen. That team was absolutely nasty to play against. Unfortunately that series took too much out of them. Had nothing left in the tank

Couldn't agree more. Just think how fast it all changed. In November 2019 we were still watching Don Cherry, cringing at the thought "Is this when he's finally going to cross the line" to...this. Say what you want about Cherry, at least he brought people to the TV. I can't imagine I'm the only one who mutes HNIC and pulls their phone out to scroll the forums during the intermissions.

Detroit vs Colorado says hi

Detroit vs Colorado says hi

Lots of fights in that series, but overall, I still think the Leafs/Isles series was worse. The amount of dirty stuff in the series was crazy. Even at the time I couldn't believe what both teams got away with

Lol I do this no matter what broadcast I'm is playing the game, they all suck these days. I'll usually un-mute to hear Bieksa talk and that's it. NHL's gotta get its act together here because these lousy broadcasts are half the reason young people are less into hockey.

Check the TSN app. Only Vegas, Colorado & Minnesota have already clinched. As mentioned Montreal & Vancouver could still pass us if we lose out and they win out

Well Montreal is already in a playoff spot so that's irrelevant.

Brooks has always been the better player, I think his injuries allowed Engvall to sneak in out of the gate last year, but Pierre never closed the door.

I was completely happy with the F group from top to bottom last night, crazy to think two guys are coming out to Join Robertson in a viable NHL bottom 6 line worth of healthies

The North is apparently the only weak division, so it surely won't get talked about, but seems to me the fact that only 3 teams in the entire league have clinched a playoff spot, and they are all in the West Division, paints a pretty clear picture of what the worst division in hockey is this year. 5 of 8 teams in that division stink and 3 are outright terrible

Yeah that's probably the most unlikely scenario. Any team running the table and the leafs losing every single game isnt happening. I'll wager my house on that.

It's not irrelevant. If Montreal passes us, they could push *us* out of a playoff spot. That's the entire point they're making. I.e., that's why we haven't cinched yet which is what started the whole discussion. To be clear: if both Vancouver and Montreal pass us in the standings and Edmonton and Winnipeg hold strong, we would be in 5th. It's like a 1 in a 1000 possibility but you never know.

Going to guess that you've never played soccer

Who hasn't played soccer? Put cleats on a hockey player, he can play soccer, put skates on a soccer player and enjoy the entertainment.

How could Montreal passing us push us out? In order to be "pushed out" someone has to "push in". Montreal is already in a PO spot.

Almost certainly not but they don't have to run the table and we don't have to lose every game for it to happen.

We have 65 points. Mon has potential to finish with 69 and Van with 71. There's room in there for maybe 1 win on our part and 1 loss for Vancouver. Montreal would lose if they lost any games and Van would lose if they lose two because we have the tie breaker on ROW's if we pick up just one win. If lost every game, Van could lose two and Mon one. I know these are obviously, I'm just bored.

And to those who think it's unimaginable for one of these teams to run the table or close to it, I still vividly remember this end of season run where we came damn close to doing it:

You have to read the whole thing. The scenario envisions both Montreal and Vancouver passing us and of course us falling behind Ed/Win.

Nice 3 full days off before the next game. Then it’s Habs time. 4 games against them to conclude the schedule. We can be their undoing. Flames could leap frog them and we would start against them in the Playoffs.

I don’t know what I would I like more, screw the Habs out of a playoff spot, or meet them in the playoffs for the first time in decades and sweep them.

Either way, it will be sweet.

Right.....but unless Van passes us, whatever Montreal does is irrelevant. Until Van pushes it's way into 4th, the results for any other team do not matter to our playoff chances.

We only care about about the 5th place team passing us. (for PO implications)

Been too long. I prefer to sweep them in the playoffs.
