Feels like the trouble started when they started getting a little too mix and matchy to get the scoring going. They also miss Simmonds' crash and bang game and Thornton's Hall of Fame level hockey sense on the Big Line. The loss of Muzzin seems to have been weathered quite well though, and Hutch deserves a lot of credit for coming back and playing very respectably.

Pretty crazy last game we were missing our #1 and 2 goalies, a forward from each of lines 1 - 3 and possibly our best defensive d-man. Didn't think we were good last game though also thought Rittich had a lot of puck luck. Can't win em all. Good to get back on track. Next 3 are big.

Only caught the 3rd. Had to laugh, the team is just in a funk: missing players, passes into skates, passes/shots hitting sticks, frustration on PP, people working but not getting the job done. We've seen it all before because it happens to every team, they go through funks. And then, oh shit, and then, OH YA, and then, beauty baby!

It's a funny game. You get in a groove and things look easy. You loose the groove and the stick gets squeezed and, uh oh, we ain't playing so good. To my eyes, the Leafs haven't been playing in the groove for the past week or so. And that's ok, it's damned difficult to keep it going for an entire season, funks happen. We're down to our 3rd string goaltender (a good two games from you Hutch), injuries are mounting, players are being shuffled in and out (which I like, keeps them engaged), JT and Nylander (up until the last 3 minutes) have not been standouts and they're a big 'separation' duo for us, we've not had great support scoring, Mikky how I'd love to see you rewarded, and various other things...but we've not gone into a tailspin, we're winning 2 of 3, we're not seeing the 18 wheeler...I'm ok with this. In fact, I'm enthused. When we've got everyone back, playing where they best slot, this team is a handful. Go Leafs Go!

Btw, what happened to Matthews wrist? I've seen it mentioned a number of times here. A slash/hit? Occurring in the first or 2nd I'd guess?

Good win.

A win is a win.

Glad to see the Leafs find ways to win when the game is in the balance. I think games like this -- when things don't seem to go right -- are a good learning experience for later in the season and in the playoffs.

Well done :)

they look like practice jerseys

whats supposed to be retro about them?????

this is retro;

They're supposed to be "reverse" jerseys. But it's kind of impossible for a 2 colour team. They already have a reverse jersey, it's called the away jersey. If they did a reverse of this it was just be the away jersey with a different crest. Maybe instead of grey they could have used black, don't know, but the silver is ugly.

yeah but if you say the truth out loud the fanboys cover their ears, stomp their feet and say hater hater haters

I used to wonder when Willy was finally going to put it together and have the kind of season he is truly capable of, I was starting to lose hope especially after the contract drama and then BAM last year happens, and I thought OK! here we go! at least35-40 goals for this guy for the foreseeable future, it can still happen and will if he gets those bad habits out of his game once and for all.

Indeed. I would also prefer he is a 25 goal scorer rather than 35, if he plays with more determination and defensive hustle.

Matthews proves that two way play can be quite profitable and help the team win games. All fans want is playoff success.

Fewest Goals against/60 5v5 among the 13 forwards to play regular minutes on the Leafs this year:

1. Taveras
2. Kerfoot
3. Thornton (including him as he's been played hard minutes)
4. Marner
5. Nylander

NHL ranking out of the 57 NHL forwards with at least 250 minutes played:

3. Tavares

For all the complaining about him, he sure isnt costing the team in this area. Probably why he still has a 5v5 goal differential of 56.41.

He's looked solid for a couple of games now after a couple rough ones. Now that Willys got the monkey off, Tavares will go off next.

Nylander has only been on the ice for like 8 goals against this year or something crazy. Him and JT are actually pretty good defensively.

Whatever one says about JT's contributions in the O zone or transitionally, one cannot complain about his efforts in our zone. The guy tries night in and out. His determination throughout his 'slump' (just shy of .9P/G :rolleyes:) is what helps teams win. I'm sure it is noticed by his teammates.

3-5m = decent two way center
11m = elite offensive + defensive center

Maybe you are right, I haven't looked it up. I'm speaking in generalities. Nothing is worse than talent that is not realized to its fully potential.

All the players on a Cup winning team sacrifice. If the Leafs don't do the same, it will be another lost season.
