The poster in responded to didn't say this year Matthews....were not even half way through the season after Mstthews won the Lindsay AND Hart and he has more even strength points, than Mcdavid...despite having a slow start. Also Mcdavid is often criticised for cheating on offense... While Matthews has been praised for his attention to playing on both side of the puck. Which is reflected in the team stats.

I'd argue Draisaitl is a better offensive player than anyone the leafs have with Matthews too.

Again..cant look at individual stats in a game as dependent on team play than hockey. Remember barzal looked like a mini Mcdavid as a rookie under weight.... But his stats dropped significantly with Trotz while his team found way more success because they played way better defensively.
Shit I should’ve probably clarified that I was speaking of this year matthews loooool

American feed?
Oh yeah. never thought about that. I'm on center ice (which blacks out any broadcast of the game that would normally play, such as SNET or TSN) so I'm watching the Flyers feed.

There's a commercial with laughton and another player shooting the shit with Ric Flair and I know hockey players can't act, but.... my gawd. they can at least memorize lines and not have to read them while filming!

He just wants the segment to end so he can go back to the buffet.

Improving on one side of the ice and getting worse on the other. Is that really improvement? Or is it a net neutral change

Matthews probably will shut me the f*** up, but as of now I’m finding his play lacklustre in the offensive zone. He shouldn’t drop 30 points in production for defence. Last year he was pacing for 120 and was good defensively. He should still be around 105 with great defence.

So either his ozone play is lacklustre or a fluke
He's a PPG player still while improving what needs to be improved the most, I wouldn't call it a net change, he's improved the one part of the game that's needed to improve in the NHL, he hasn't lost the capability of scoring in the NHL, it's still the same player that scored 50 goals in 50 games last year, while being better in his own end.

There's still 50 games left in the season, like I reminded you earlier, wonder what he did in 50 games last year....

I've said it before....Drai is a defensive abomination. Near bottom of the league. Both Marner and Matthews could run up their offense if they neglected defense the way he does.

And if he transforms into Bergeron with more goals, is that so bad?

Got to think this is a game where we dominate the shots and possession metrics but some how lose 3-2 in a shoot out or something like that haha.

A different he transforms into Bergeron with more goals, is that so bad?
I would argue that maybe he's turning into Stevie Y. A guy who was all world offensively early in his career, but his team couldn't get over the hump. But as time went on, he dialed back the offence to concentrate more on his all around game, especially his D. And lo and behold (with a lot of help from Bowman and a great supporting cast, mind you) he became a multiple SC champion. Hope this is the road Matty and TML are headed down.
