One thing the all time greats tend to do well is they’re so good every year that their success becomes boring and repetitive.

Lidstrom wins another Norris? Yawn. Brodeur plays 70 games and pitches 10 shutouts. Again? Bergeron wins the Selke? Who cares? McDavid another scoring title? Yeah whatever.

For Matthews to keep progressing as a top 2-3 player in the game you almost want to see him maintain at that high level to the point where it becomes repetitive and boring. Last year was a big party and this year has been a bit of a hangover.
