If management decides to make a move with the big 4 in the off-season I wouldn’t hate circling back on Phil in free agency to Phil the hole on the right wing. Hilarious how coming back he’d be the veteran leadership and showing the boys how to win after being rode out of town for not being “the guy” (I know he had to go at the time, but I still loved him as a player)

He’s exactly what we need. Mobile, physical, defends the blue line, clears the net, physical. He’s everything the Leafs need in the top 4

He can do all that, but he actually doesn't do all that on a consistent basis

Who you described is actually Chris Pronger

That goal was ALL Dermott. That pass to Liljegren was trash. I'm also getting concerned with Spezza. Another game where the fourth line is getting caved at 5 on 5.
Spezza hasn't been good for a while. He's just so likeable people turn a blind eye and pretend he's fine.

If Kessel took a Spezza like discount, not the same amount but the same kind of deal, he would be loved by the fans.

Spezza is constantly lined up with Ritchie, Clifford, Simmonds
Two of them were on waivers
One of them is barely hanging on to an NHL roster

You'll find when Engvall comes back, size and skating will be a nice offset for Jason

I think we need another Brodie who can flat out think and play the game any way you want. I want a physical defenseman too but Manson is a big Leaf board fan favourite from that breakout year and nobody realize he never followed up.

And Bad, don't forget he's bad. He's analytically the worst defenseman on the Ducks and has been that way for years now.
You know who’s been an analytically elite defenseman for about 5 years now? Travis Dermott. The guy who makes defensive blunders every night and whom the coaching staff shows absolutely no faith it

Too lazy to look up the stats, but my guess is the 4th line is better without Ritchie/Clifford
The fourth line was indeed better when Clifford and Ritchie weren't on it. That being said Ritchie is still on it tonight and they have a whopping 3 xgf% against mainly fourth line comp from ARIZONA. That is like the easiest assignment possible in the NHL and they are blowing it.
