Mirtle said the same thing last night. He asked around the league at the draft and there wasn't much interest in him. Go back to when the Kings balked at him in a trade, we've over inflated this guy's worth for years.

Time will tell.

We all hope they made the correct decision in Berube not supporting him from the beginning.

Keefe took him out of the playoffs because he wasn't 100% healthy, but he played 6 games, 4th. highest TOI/g, 3rd. highest EV TOI/g.

Seems to be some revisionist comments being made.

He was out because he was awful.

Yep some still are over inflating him I guess because they are saying we didn't get fair value back.

He might turn into something better than what we saw here once out of the spotlight and fishbowl of Toronto...with a chance to compete for ice time on a non-contender. I also think this will happen, but I don't think he was doing it here.

Leaf have a bad habit of shopping players and when no one bites they sign them to overblown contracts, luckily Tre was able to move this mistake, Styles not so much……..
I am not sure this contract was a mistake. We were able to trade a guy that has almost two years or control and we ate 40% of the cash as a signing bonus.

SJ gets a 25 year old, RD with some potential to become more than he has so far (he did play 20 minutes a night for the Leafs last year) for $3.6M in real money over two years.

I think the contract may have added value here.

Mutually beneficial trade here. Lilly going to get much more playing time in SJ. It will be interesting to see if he can take the oppurtunity and run with it.

If you think he's bad, then his value was further tanked by Treliving signing him to a 3m contract.
You're accusing the leafs of all sorts of things. Treliving doesn't select who plays every night. That's on Berube. The same goes for Keefe.

Liljegren has had a long history of hurting TOR and his professional career.

Meh, it is what it is. The big thing was they saved some money. The picks were just filler. Liljegren should get some ice time in SJ.

They could have lost him for nothing? What was the harm and we were always getting something back, despite what the doom patrol was saying. It was an arbitration move, just get it done. Recall talk prior that the team has soured on him.
Seems like the 2nd year hurt his value.

Not sure what you're talking about. All I've done is acknowledge the fact that trade values are negatively impacted by a player:
1. Being paid more than they're worth
2. Being healthy scratched for 90% of games
That seems like a pretty basic and obvious thing, and I'm not sure why you're so unwilling to acknowledge it too.

Yes. As a player he negatively impacted his trade value.

SJ high on his wish list? That's interesting. Low pressure? Sun? Friends on the team? Just a strange team to have high on your wish list in 2024.
Why is it strange? He wants to play and he’s probably going to play a lot of minutes in a top-4 role.

San Jose offers opportunity and minutes.
Yeah, I guess. It just feels like they're still a long way away from contention.

Because they're nowhere near turning it around. There's going to be plenty of losing ahead. I wouldn't see that as desirable for many players. (he can get ice time on other teams)

At only 25 years old and in a bit of an uncertain place career wise, I think at this point, opportunity is a bigger draw than contention.
In 2 years he’ll be a ufa that’s his chance to cash in for his career so your right opportunity is much more important than contention

Liljegren, Treliving, and Berube all negatively impacted Liljegren's trade value.
No. I don't agree. It's not a share-all situation. Liljegren is a big in boy big pants. A professional athlete. If he can't "make the cut", he's going to make no money or have opportunities.

As you said low pressure is probably the key. I think it’s all mental for Lilly so SJ makes a lot of sense in my opinion.

He’ll probably be in and out of lineup on teams actually trying to make the playoffs.
