Post-Game Talk: Leafs tie Season Series with Senators

for some unknown reason it's 3-0

they been coasting all series, no killer instinct. face it, they been playing like sh* for the majority of these games, no aggression, no excitement, no desire to blow out Ottawa and just take it to them. they're just taking a small lead and then sitting back, allowing the Sens back into it each time

but somehow they have a big lead

it must mean Ottawa is just that bad? because there's no way this should be 3-0
im not sure how allowing 1 shot in the third period in game 2 and 2 shots in the third period in game 3 is no killer instinct or playing like shit...I haven't seen a leafs team just put a wet blanket on a team like this in my life this is f***ed. if stolarz doesnt whiff on Brady tonight the series is still 3-0 but we're talking about a period where the leafs allowed 2 shots while being up and just chewed up the clock

Anyone complaining about Matthews is crazy.

Textbook 200 ft play - it’s probably the best Dzone Centre play I have seen in a long while. I coach my son’s team (he’s a C), had him studying AM tonight. It was poetry.
Timely goal.
+3
PK was great
Draws
Tough mins

A Leader - and that’s how you win tough hockey games.
It's mostly trolls who have a hate on for him. Then they disappear after a night like tonight

What about when Tkachuk tackled Nylander from behind.

Can’t believe Travis Green’s weak shit whining actually had an impact.
Let's not forget the early penalty on Brady in fron of the net. Yes our stick got in the hands and it's a pretty routine penalty, but - Tkachuk nearly did the splits whole standing, annndd threw his head back in Stutzle drama queen fashion - frommmm.....

 a
stick..........

In the handsssss..

Ffs - Senators are more like the Jennifers

This is a garbage take

If Ridly Greig didn't get himself cross checked in the face by Reilly then no one would ever have talked about him. Was he on the ice? No one is scared of him and his 13 regular season goals. Nick Roberston scored more and he watched this game from the press box. The Sens really have no one that scares you. I guess Stutzle but you're only scared he'll dive and the Leafs will get a penalty, which happened tonight.

Maybe you can go down to the CTC and help them hang the “moral victories, more 5 on 5 shots” banner next fall.

This was the first time in about two years I didn't know the outcome before watching the game.

Normally it's impossible to avoid the score for longer than about five minutes after waking up. Even if you don't go on the internet there's always some loudmouth who thinks it's hilarious to tell you the results. During the regular season I normally don't care and can't be bothered anymore.

But man was it ever good today to watch this game and see them take a stranglehold on the series.

If they lost this round it would have been the biggest bust for this core yet. Even going to seven games would have been a disappointment. A sweep is just the confidence boost they need to take on a real contender in the next round.

I'm sorry but anyone using this series to "prove" the Leafs have become a playoffs warrior is getting ahead of themselves.

I'm just as happy as the next fan the Leafs are destroying the Senaturds. But Ottawa stinks and their coach is even worse than Keefe. Celebrating like Toronto just won the Stanley Cup is a little premature.

The results of this series were known before it even started.

Leafs need to end this series next game, they're creating bad habits. I feel like after Game 1 they try to keep the score close and play defensive so Ottawa doesn't take runs at them and injure them when they know they're going to lose the game. Sure, it works to sit back when you're playing a bad team and can score at will, but it won't work against (likely) Florida.

Ullmark is rocking a .815 save percentage this series
Bobrovsky is rocking a .951 save percentage against Tampa

The next series you likely can't just sit back and score at will. They need to go out next game and start shooting, even when they have the lead. Create some confidence for the shooters because the goaltending, defence, and forwards are about to be 10x better next series. The Sens are a joke and everyone but Sens fans knew they'd lose.

It would be nice sweeping them though, after they were bragging about their 3-0 regular season series win as if those games meant anything to the Leafs. The Leafs can elevate in the playoffs, Ottawa can't.

The Mcmann-Domi-Patches line played with purpose. Real physical, and generated some chances.

Before this game we had goalie and we had FIVE big and tough #2-#3 D and we had three lines clicking and one line that was questionable. But how about that third line now that fans were worried about? I think we have four lines now and there are literally no holes in this squad.

Still not a fan of that third line. They've been a liability on defence all series. They're the only line that got scored on 5v5 this game also. How they turned an offensive zone face off to a 3 on 2 in seconds is beyond me, they have no idea how to play defensively. It was a bad goal on Stolarz but it was still a 3 on 2 because of lack of defensive awareness by everyone on that line.

Maybe try Kampf for some more defensive help? Pacioretty didn't really do much.

I've been on the sens board reading their takes and a few of their posts were worth discussing here. For example, this one.

Is this what it was like losing 4-2 to a veteran-laden caps team in 2017 ? With all games going to overtime) but thinking we were actually "right there with them"? I was optimistic and happy to be there, but were the more realistic fans telling it like it really was?

I think this guy pretty much sees this series for what it is.

... And he expands on this here as well
I posted many times about it. This version of Leafs just locks it down like bank vault. They play low events hockey, block shots and give very few chances. And our jokers are much better than what any team in NHL has. So sooner or later our skill will break game open. So we will eventually win. And if last 11-13 games is not greatest testimony of that then I don’t know what is.
There was genius soccer coach Lobanovsky and one journalist once asked him if style of his team is too conservative and defensive. His team just won the game 2-1 and his answer was “The result is there on the screen.”
