Post-Game Talk: Leafs smoke Flames 6-2

He scores goals, that is enough to keep him in there

It really isn’t. His overall game is weak, despite being an OK scorer.

For a team that struggles so heavily to get production from their bottom 6, we have a guy in Robertson who can get you 15-20 goals from there. His warts are worth what he provides

Warts are not worth it when what he provides is a net negative.

Scoring 10 goals and allowing 5 is better than scoring 50 and allowing 60.

Nice to see the PP get three, they moved the puck a little quicker.

Domi with his second great game in a row. Showed quickness and deft passing.

Carlo looking like a nice addition. I like Benoit’s feistiness.

But, Laughton even as a 4th liner offers little more than an AHLer could. Glad he got his first goal….in his own net.

Scott Rotten is one of the worst players to ever wear the Maple Leaf sweater. He should be made a healthy scratch ASAP.

I see little difference in Robertson’s game and Nylander’s game. Nylander is miles ahead in talent, but just as one demensional……..

Robertson hits more... a lot more

Nylander is so cowardly it's disgusting.

Fancy is richy Mitchys other middle name they had a good game but they also had a good game without Mitch on the line they play a more direct physical game when he’s not on the line but they line was very good yesterday the whole team was except our new home town kid even he was alright well elaborate after the avs game and see what we actually learned

The quality of game line had is not even close of the type of game matthews-Knies played vs Ottawa without wven if they connect vs ottawa for a goal and didn't convert it to a 5v5 goal last night.

They was most of the time 1st on the puck, was really fighting for everything and that create scpring chance... It was not necessairly the case vs Ottawa.

That game was exactly what we needed and why this team is so maddening.

This had the makings of a rough night for us, playing a physical and fast team that is pushing hard for the playoffs.

Loved the efforts from Robertson and Domi, and Holmberg is becoming more noticeable.

I like what I see from Carlo and would like to see Myers draw back in to let OEL play LHD again but it’s hard not to like Benoit.
Wish Holmberg could finish those looks Willy sets up for him. It's kind of why I'm intrigued with Jarnkrok possibly playing in that spot because he has a better shot. But yes Holmberg has shown some edge lately which is nice.

That wasn't even a 'line' - both his assists (and both Matthews' goals) were on the PP and came from easy passes to a wide open Nylander, who scored or set up all three PP goals.

As a line they cycled the puck a lot and very well, but I don't recall it creating many scoring chances.
Huh? I just said marner was gonna get easy points tonight he did

He is on a Clarkson level of disappointment. We gave up a first and probably a #4 prospect in Grebenkin for that level of mediocrity? I'd give him one more shot. Put him on the second line in Holmberg's spot and see if he can be a puck hound with two skilled players. Maybe there's some offence better than Holmberg's that can be found. If he can't do that, then Treliving and the scouts should be shot to the moon for that kind of a fleecing.

He just doesn’t move his feet. They need to show him video of his shifts. He could be way more impactful but doesn’t move like he needs to.

Robertson On Ice Expected Goals % is 44.8%, only Kampf is worse on the team, with more that 500 minutes played.

His actual Goals % is 48.9%. Again, only Kampf is worse.

Of course, Kampf starts in primarily defensive situations, where as Robertson starts in offensive situations... so given usage, it's Robertson who has the worst goal differential on our team.

Now, there are spots where Robertson looks great, contributes well... but then there are 12 games, and 9 games streaks with no points.

Robertson is on a 27 point pace for the season. For him to be useful, he'd really need to be at a 40-50 point pace.

I'm not blaming him for our woes in anyway, but there has been discussion about him above, and it seemed to lack the context of his production, vs. how much we get scored on while he's on the ice. If he doesn't find a way to start to be more productive, I don't see how we can continue with him on the team in the future.

He also played with the ghost of Domi for long periods of time this year.

His rel xGF% is higher than McMann, Kampf, and Reaves.

That coaches challenge swung the momentum in our favor big time

Matthews is back ?? He was shooting the puck and driving the net how he normally does and he had that quick snap back in his release

To the dudes what were complaining about the lineup pre-game, how Domi can't play C bla bla, :) Glad you were wrong

I wasn't including Reaves... I doubt he ever plays here again, so he's irrelevant now. I mean, he was irrelevant even when he played, but when you are comparing Robertson to Reaves, it should be the first bad sign.

Kampf of course has been explained.. given the defensive usage, it's to be expected.

McMann on the other hand is at 0.5PPG approx, having 29 points, instead of the 19 Robertson has.. McMann also has ACTUAL 3.0 GF/60, while Robertson has 2.2 GF/60. McMann's actual GF% is 57.8%, while Robertson's actual is 48.9%. McMann is getting it done offensively, while Robertson isn't... it's that simple. If Robertson had 29/30 points, we wouldn't be having this discussion.. but he's not.

Expected is useful for only so long... which basically suggests... eventually you expect the player to trend towards that number, from where they are. For Robertson, that suggests he will actually be worse than the Actual results, which aren't acceptable to begin with. For McMann, you'd expect much worse results than you are getting, but as long as his actual results are very good, which they are, it isn't a problem.

If he had crosbys intensity he’d be the best player in the world. There are moments where he dominates the game and makes it look effortless
No doubt Styles has sll the tools to be a league top five player, but much like 34 snd 16 doesn’t bring it as consistently as the true top players do……..
