Post-Game Talk: Leafs smoke Flames 6-2

If they could just find a way to play non playoff teams in the playoffs….

It really is a shame they always run into teams that up their game in the playoffs. Why can't more teams be like the Leafs and have their goalies be average* and their stars score below their career norms? :sarcasm:

*Woll might be en exception to this... It's a shame he got injured for game 7 last year.

I can almost guarantee the players are told all the time to dump it in and get it deep. He's probably doing what he's told.

Well of course. I mean he does this in a way where he is panicked and could protect or pass but gets rid of it any way he can.

Pretty sure Babcock couldn't stand players like that either. Shocking Babcock wasn't overly keen on Mitch. It would drive Cherry mad too.

Nice to see the PP get three, they moved the puck a little quicker.

Domi with his second great game in a row. Showed quickness and deft passing.

Carlo looking like a nice addition. I like Benoit’s feistiness.

But, Laughton even as a 4th liner offers little more than an AHLer could. Glad he got his first goal….in his own net.

Marner was already one of player Babcock trusted the most even when he was only 20...

If a coach asking to come back to a basic game and keep the thing simple but working harder and marner just keep thing simple unstead trying fency play and just working harder, why coach should complain? That's exactly what he's asking!!!

The Knies-Matthews-Marner line had been amaizing all game long, if you complaining about anything anybof those 3 played did last night, you're probably need to rewatch the game .

Come on man, you're reaching here. Marner is one of those greasy players who's almost impossible to hit. He's not panicking, he's following the system.

I cancelled my Prime because f*** Bezos, but from the highlights it looked like Matthews may have actually tried this game? How'd the team look overall?

Fancy is richy Mitchys other middle name they had a good game but they also had a good game without Mitch on the line they play a more direct physical game when he’s not on the line but they line was very good yesterday the whole team was except our new home town kid even he was alright well elaborate after the avs game and see what we actually learned

Willy with 16 points (leading the team) since the 4Nations and 12 (leading the team) in March.

And for those who complain he hasn't been getting assists this year, he's tied for 4th (one behind the leaders) in assists in March, along with being tied for 3rd (one behind the leaders) in points.

(Despite Holmberg and JT missing on a few more tonight.)
He obviously doesn't care nor try.

We’ve tried that line and it doesn’t work 5 on 5. Willie’s game has evolved so much and it just doesn’t mesh with Matthews game anymore 5 on 5. Both need the puck, both like to create their own shots. You’re wasting one or the other every shift by having them together 5 on 5, it’s not like their line is going to cycle. Both love scoring off the rush and carrying the puck into the zone to create their shots. It’s not really a fit, and do we really want Willy to start passing up shooting opportunities to distribute to Matthews?
I wouldn't want you do it all the time, but late in a game I think that's the best combo.

Both Matty and Willy have the ability to shoot if the pass isn't there, and pass if the shot isn't there, and Knies provides the heavyweight.

Putting Willy and Matty together is the closest thing to Edmonton putting McDavid and Draisaitl together.

I knew this a game where he’d get easy points I’ll reserve my judgement of that line and his individual game when we’re facing a heavy forechecc team that’s not giving us any time and space
That wasn't even a 'line' - both his assists (and both Matthews' goals) were on the PP and came from easy passes to a wide open Nylander, who scored or set up all three PP goals.

As a line they cycled the puck a lot and very well, but I don't recall it creating many scoring chances.

It sucks that I missed the game because I don't have Prime, I have Amazon, I guess I need to upgrade. It's the first game that I've missed in a while and they win, I guess I need to watch less so they'll win.
I don't have Prime and have no intention of getting it. My wife and I went to Gabby's last night.

I'd rather give a local bar $100 for a good meal, a half bottle of wine, and a few beer, than give Amazon my money.

Also McMann-Domi-Robertson is a very fun line. Maximum intensity, can score. Goalie's nightmare on both ends of the ice.

I get that Robertson is streaky but I will never understand why he's always the first out of the lineup. This team needs that kind of depth player, and the guy works hard. Too many grinders is just not good. Now up to 12 goals. They have to find a way to keep him in the lineup in a non 4th line role.

I'd agree, he's one of those guys that seems to find the net and needs to be in the lineup.
Those two penalties he took won't earn him any brownie points with the Coach though.

I think you have it backwards. They don’t have to “find a way” to keep him in the roster. Robertson has to give them a reason to keep him. He doesn’t do that enough.

I mean he keeps showing them. Whether he's scoring or not he's noticeable most times in a good way. I disagree.

I personally would have him dressed and Holmberg out, but that’s about the only guy would scratch for Robertson.

He’s just so limited when he can a lot into the roster. It’s offensive role LW or nothing.

He scores goals, that is enough to keep him in there

For a team that struggles so heavily to get production from their bottom 6, we have a guy in Robertson who can get you 15-20 goals from there. His warts are worth what he provides
