Post-Game Talk: Leafs smoke Flames 6-2

Yep... I noticed awhile back that Marner has added hugging the mascot to his list of after win routines:

Add that too his other requirements
- He needs to be the last player to hug the goalie after wins
- He needs to be the last player off the ice
- he needs to be last player on the ice.

Imagine playing with this guy?

Anything for as much as attention as possible. Subban vibes. Cant just be one of the guys.

So many "superstitions", but somehow offseason training doesnt make the list. Loves attention but cant take criticism.
I knew this a game where he’d get easy points I’ll reserve my judgement of that line and his individual game when we’re facing a heavy forechecc team that’s not giving us any time and space

That was a much needed performance

60 minutes and they were unquestionably the better team which hasn't happened a lot lately

The 3rd line looked aggressive and had a lot of jump, they looked dangerous all night and gave us some much needed depth scoring
Well done Max Domi, probably his best showing this season

Good to see the special teams get going to, they have been pretty cold recently so it was nice to dominate that battle

The defense looked settled and calm and Woll was solid, didn't love the 1st one but he knuckled down and gave us a chance to win

Tough game against Colorado coming up but I'd run the same team out and give them a chance once more

Pp and third line are both very important for the playoffs so hopefully they can build off this

Good win.
Team came ready to play hard and we controlled the majority of the game.
Domi had a good game and his play / offensive contributions have improve lately and that's a huge bonus for our third line.
Robertson has his shortcomings as a player but we probably need him in the lineup with our lack of depth scoring and he's one of our best pure shooters.
Next game is going to be tough against COL and after that a desperate NYR but then NASH, PHI, SJ and ANA in a 5 game stretch before playing Florida again. We need to bank alot of points in these upcoming games if we want to win the division.

I don't think anyone would be bothered playing with him. He seems to take criticism just fine.

It sucks that I missed the game because I don't have Prime, I have Amazon, I guess I need to upgrade. It's the first game that I've missed in a while and they win, I guess I need to watch less so they'll win.

I don’t think we should get rid of AM34, but he needs to bring a better and more consistent effort night in and night out. He’s not even close to the player who was hungry for the puck during COVID or even last season.

If he can’t shoot, he needs to be a distributor as a center and start passing the puck and creating chances for his linemates. To me that’s what makes him a tier below Crosby, McDavid, Draisaitl, MacKinnon, Barkov, ect, those guys drive play and create for their lines & can distribute just as good as create they can create their own chances. As a center Matthews could be doing more in terms of that.

While there’s always more he could give in his playmaking game, I actually feel like distributing is exactly what he’s been doing, even passing out of prime scoring locations we’d never usually see from him.

He’s actually generating a lot of assists as well. In fact, since Feb 1st, he has 16 assists in 16 games, which is good for 3rd in the NHL (1 behind MacKinnon, 2 behind Bratt)

Since Jan 1st he’s tied or within 1 assist (plus or minus) of each of McDavid, Marner, Draisaitl, Barkov, Eichel, while also ourscoring any of them not named Draisaitl

15 goals, 22 assists, 37 points in 28 games in 2025, and all while battling what we believe to be a back injury is pretty wild. That’s a 108 point pace.

Because Calgary wasn’t very good. The Leafs didn’t try harder, they didn’t get faster since Saturday, they played pretty much the same as they have been, but they had more time and space.

Wolf was awful as well. CGY in general were awful. When they went to hit Mitch he was still throwing the puck away. Ain't gonna win like that, can tell ya that much

That game was exactly what we needed and why this team is so maddening.

This had the makings of a rough night for us, playing a physical and fast team that is pushing hard for the playoffs.

Loved the efforts from Robertson and Domi, and Holmberg is becoming more noticeable.

I like what I see from Carlo and would like to see Myers draw back in to let OEL play LHD again but it’s hard not to like Benoit.

Many think they try harder on some nights when it’s simply not the entire story. The Robertson goal is a perfect example. Domi didn’t skate harder to retrieve the puck and pass it out front, but there was no competition for the puck.
Some nights they simply won’t have legs and give up, but those are rare, and every team does it occasionally.

Marner had zero giveaways in the game. Of course, I used the box score for that statistic.

Rewatch the game. You will see multiple times he gets rid of it to someone in bad position to take the pass etc. it's always rushed, forced and fails.

When he has the space, he makes beauty plays
I don't think so, but I will rewatch the game.

So exactly, how do you enjoy watching Minten, plus 2025 first round draft choice, and Greybonkin plus your 2026 first round draft choice.
It's not that we didn't need a dman, and that will help. We did need it. But....
Did we really need to pay for a fourth line center who can't kill penalties...so what we accomplished was to pay Kampf to not play and gave away Greybonkin and a first draft pick and increased our payroll.

No it was stupid. I thought Laughton could actually skate. I would never support any trade for a guy that can't skate. We are a slow team to begin with.

I'm going to be willfully naive and say that the Leafs were getting their bad stretch of hockey and scoring struggles out of the way early this year instead of leaving it for the playoffs. They're going to roll right into the playoffs now. :sarcasm:

If they could just find a way to play non playoff teams in the playoffs….
