Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

Realistically. How many people actually watched him play this year?
I had John Gibson and Troy Terry on my fantasy team, I probably watched about twenty/thirty Ducks games last year (while flipping between other games) - Klingberg was absolutely terrible for them.

That being said, I still like this signing, Anaheim was a bad situation and he is just 30 years old - if he can get back to his old level of play, this could be an absolute steal. If he doesn't, it's just a one year contract so it's not a huge L to take.

He was ok for Minnesota after looking terrible for Anaheim. I think he performs better in a structured system that can hide his flaws. That’s the hope in Toronto. Because if they get Anaheim Kingberg then the paper bags might be out in the stands.

This team still needs one more RHD and at least one or two scoring middle six forward with grit.

I used to watch a bunch of Dallas. Watch every playoff game. He was fantastic in the playoffs for Dallas.

Watched him in Minnesota in the playoffs he was fine we

Except shouldn't reclamation projects cost, like, 1.5M?

You'd think! But with the free agent class being so shallow, you go outside your comfort zone to fill the need. In the presser Treliving was saying something similar about the term on Reaves deal - they didn't want to go that long but if they wanted to get him they had to.

Not sure I agree with them on either, but it is what it is now.. lol

The negative towards klingberg is all emotion base. No real proof except nonsense posts of anger thinking they are klingberg experts.

The ones being positive are at least reasonable why upside is there. We won't know for sure he will be here until he's given the chance.

How much of this place said Florida is going to miss the playoffs and were dumb trading weegar and Huber for Tkachuk. You guys are always wrong again and again.

Klingberg is probably amongst the worst defensive defenseman in the league and when we tried to add another in his mold in Barrie, it wasn't good. We also had Muzzin on that roster who was still very good at the time, we're lacking that currently.

I don't think these are outlandish proclamations.

A lot of opinions based on moronic takes on the main board.

I guarantee that if any other team besides the Leafs signed Klingberg for the same term and AAV, it would not be scrutinized.

Overall, Klingberg's pedigree is much better than most posters have given him credit for, and he is absolutely an upgrade over Schenn, Holl, and Gustafsson. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

Seems like a good fit for a team that had trouble scoring against Florida and need someone that can move the puck. Even if he sucks hard, it’s a one year contract.

I think you may be into something there. They are keeping Keefe around to create a scapegoat at Christmas if the team is struggling.

Seems like a strange strategy. That just makes Teliving look bad for keeping Keefe in the first place.

Maybe Klingberg is the answer to our top six LW problem? Since he doesn’t play D.

Just imagine Rielly and Klingberg as a pairing defensively.
I'm just hoping that idea never fully becomes a reality (utilize the pairing only when the need for offence is paramount). I've also always been one that prefers an offensive-defensive balance brought to each pairing.

I always find it hilarious that people quote those stat sheets like they are somehow facts

And not just some random person on Twitter making up his own equations

Pittsburgh sucking is the reason Florida made it, they left it in someone else's hands, not exactly the best argument.

Klingberg is not good... we can hope he turns it around, but by most metrics, he has sucked recently.

Being reasonable doesn't mean being delusional about his past.

He has been bad, let's hope it was the systems he was playing in and he can return to form.

Given some of the contracts with term being thrown around Klingberg at his talent level on a reasonable 1 year deal is a pretty good sign. He's a legitimate top-3 D with 50+ point upside this season.

This is correct. Leafs fans got it wrong regarding the previous GM, so hopefully they are wrong again.

It’s the whiniest fan base of all.

Because Klingberg is much better.
Easily. In addition to that, LHD vs RHD, the comparison of playoff stats, not to mention the fact that Klingberg has the clear advantage in GP for two players born in the same year. I can concede that Gustafsson may have taken a lesser offer to remain on a contender.
