I guess Galchenyuk is confirmed too expensive. Otherwise it makes no sense to PTO a guy with the hope he can fill the Gally role.....when the real thing is still available. This guy has 0% shot at bottom 6 he can't play defence to save his own life. This is a top 6 tryout.

Going to miss Gally honestly. Especially that 6'2 210 pound frame to go along with his skillset.

He will drive our other skilly talented forwards into more of a competition at the camp. He therefore makes other players better. He himself is over in the nhl and won't soften our lineup longer and will not be playing any games for the legendary maple leafs.

No. At least Gusev has a half decent NHL season.

Gusev had 44 points in 66 games two years ago.

Ho Sang last played in the NHL three years ago, 10 games, 2 points.
Agreed, if he makes the team i think you will see him play with JT. Obviously a strong offensive player but evidently a slower skater so would work well on JTs line.

The one use I can think of is that if he clicks with one of Matthews or JT it opens up Willy to drop down with Kerfoot a la Kessel with Bonino. A Bunting-Kerfoot-Nylander 3rd line has real possibilities.

That is interesting

We know Kerfoot-Nylander and Tavares-Marner combos work. So it would be interesting if Gusev could get going playing beside Matthews who sucks up all the defenders around him.

Gusev is such a blackhole defensively that I feel the other winger has to be a defensively responsible player like Mikeheyev.

Not surprised with the release especially considering he’s got almost 100 NHL under his belt and couldn’t really stand out in pre-season.

I thought he looked better as training camp progressed. I just don't think he's a better fit than our current guys and doesn't seem like he has interest in joining the Marlies to keep working at it. He'll get some nice change from the KHL.

They probably had a verbal deal that the Leafs would release him early if they didn't see him making the Club. That allow's his agent to shop him around the league before rosters are set.

One of those fungible 10-15 options….didn’t make enough of an impression. Best of luck to him.

He showed poor decision making on the powerplay in his last preseason game, that'd be the place they'd be looking for him to help most. The shot is there but he's not fast, defensive or gritty.

He's a slight player who plays a slow to off speed skill game with a good shot/long wind up and lacks any kind of fast twitch movement. Has no physical element, probably can't cycle a lick and I'm not sure what his defensive capabilities are. Doesn't really come across as the most modern NHL top six player. Sort of like a higher caliber Nic Petan.
