If he had the same calibre one timer he could at least be a stationary artillery piece for a playmaker to find on PP2, if he had better skating and could fire the wrister in stride he could be a counterpunch diet Kessel on the 3rd line. I love his shot when he’s feeling it but it’s too one dimensional even just looking at his shot arsenal in a vacuum, to say nothing about the rest of his game.

Just take the inevitable reclamation project and a 5th we’ll get for him. He’ll score 20+ on a bad team and probably round out his game into a utility bottom 6er like Mason Raymond/Wellwood towards his 30s, I’ll see you guys in the “why did the Leafs trade Nicky Robby” thread in 5 years. Guy seems like he needs the chip on his shoulder anyway, a future considerations trade might save his career.

I really like Berube comments about him last night. He basically said as the coach it’s his job to make him better and that’s he’s struggling right now.

Can't speak for Ulf, but I can see what he means when he downrates Robertson's shot. It's a great shot from a mechanical point of view and you don't expect that force from a body like that... but he has problems finding the time and space to release it. Which makes it a weapon he can't use efficiently.
The other point is that he takes soooo long to load it up compared to a similar sized guy in Caulfield. He just needs that extra split second to load up and by then the D has their stick in the way. If it were a skills competition ...he would look amazing.

Lots of Ifs with Robby. He needs a new team.

Looking around the league for a 4th liner who can play physical and kill penalties, Fischer is a possibility. I would trade Robertson for him, that’s how low it’s gotten.

He put immense pressure on himself when he asked for a trade. He delivered in pre season but has been a non factor in the regular season. At least he isn't playing poor when defending. If some of his early chances had gone it, confidence can be a dominoe effect.

I saw the same happen to Jose Bautista years ago when he demanded a massive amount of money in the offseason. He had a poor season in his "show me" year and never made near the same again in his last few years in the league.
Jay's fluked into him as well as that DH Edwin Encarnación who surprisingly is only 41

I think he is getting traded soon. They will have to make roster decisions once Kampf and McMann come back.

Jarnkrok does not exist in my mind until we get an update that is not month to month.

I’m so glad he’s getting sone puck luck, he’s worked hard and really stick with it. He’s been better than the numbers suggest. He’s persevering, he’s due….and some things are going his way finally.

Strange to think….just a few more points here and there and he’d be tracking at a decent third line clip.

I dunno, I think the kid has been playing pretty good hockey all year. There's been a noticeable uptick in his defensive awareness. He's not getting hammered every game. He's back checking hard. He's been pretty reliable at getting the puck out of our own zone. The big problem for him, imo, has been where his shots have been coming from on the ice, which again imo, has been a result of his line mates. Robertson needs someone who can set him up in areas where he can take advantage of his shot. Up until two games ago his shooting % was hovering around 6%. After today's game it's up to 11.1%. Last year he shot 14.6%, and curiously (like now) had Domi as his center. Nick isn't a line driver, but he can be a serviceable sniper on a third line if his C has some chops in the Ozone. I'd be happy to see how this McMann/Domi/Robertson line proves out.

I said earlier than he wasn't getting the bounces but he wasn't a liability. Unfortunately he has to produce to stick in the lineup and he has the last couple of nights. This was his most complete game as a Leaf that I can remember.

He was bumping when the hit was there, he headed to the net constantly and without hesitation. Multiple times he hounded the loose pucks for goals. If he plays this way every night, he can be a real threat to the opposition. Use your speed, your shot, cause trouble for the defender in front and play with tenacity.

Seeing him play the way he did tonight ensures he has no reason to not duplicate the effort every night. THIS is how he can play and he must for the Leafs to have depth offense. If you don't score, be involved and make it difficult for the opponent.
