If he can play in Pk and have an impact in the defensive end, he will be 100% sure in leafs top 9

He was too much unidimentionnal by the past but looking much better without the puck

Too much excitement over preseason games?

Great that he looked okay defensively, and very good offensively.

Looking forward to seeing the line-up on Tuesday when they have to be compliant.

Just like previous years, Robertson is still going to have to adapt to a role. He’s scored in the pre-season with first line ice time, deployment, and PP time. He won’t get that during the season.

5 goals in pre-season, a one man wrecking ball, speedy, motivated, price-effective contract...yet he wants to be traded.
I think it’s safe to say his relationship with Keefe was piss poor to say the least. Perhaps he blamed upper management for allowing it to continue.

Who is going to replace Robertson on the PP? Jarnkrok? He has the second or third best shot on the team and will get some PP minutes this year. They desperately need another shooter on the PP aside from Matthews.

If he takes a step forward, and moves up a line, so 2nd. line, he'll be facing better players.

I mention Gallagher earlier, and he scored well in limited ice time, when they doubled his ice time he improved offensively, but he did not double production.

There might be some who believe if he gets double the ice time, his production will double.

IMO, you don't become a PPG player, year after year, without playing with players who are PPG.

Right now there are two options:

marner or Nylander.

I think marner is already under contract to Matthews.
True. But in limited time in the AHL he’s been a point a game player according to the stats posted, probably in junior too. So maybe his skill set will translate to the NHL and eventually he does it there.

Since the day I first saw him, his shot was elite so I hope it gets better with experience.

It isn't as simple as doubling ice time, doubling production.
I would think an increase, but perhaps not a liner increase.

Again, Gallagher in Montreal.

offensively never really been an issue in his case, the problem was when he was unable to score... he became useless for the team and i never saw robertson as good in defendive

But i told it this summer than someone who could benefit of Berube would be robertson and marner

I knew Berube would recognize his motor, his competitiveness is exceptional. That's why I've always been in his corner, you can't teach tenacity and desire.
I'm saying it right now, but with the right situation and timing, Robertson will score 40 goals at least once in his career.

But it's not just on him. He needs to play with the right players that can get him the puck and he needs to get top 6 minutes and ideally get little bit of power play time.

He won't score 40 goals this year with Matthews blocking him on PP1 but I think he will do it in his career, likely when he leaves us (sadly).

If the Leafs want to maximize his production while we have him, the key for Robertson hitting 25-30 goals this year is playing him aggressively in the top 9 (17-18 mins a night) and keeping him away from Tavares, IMO.

I don't get this dismissive pre season stuff as far as scoring goes. The guy was on a 21 goal pace last year averaging 11 minutes. What more do you want? He's tidying up his defensive game, maturing as most do.

Can only play the games in front of you, pre-season, regular season, or playoffs. He's done everything asked of him so far.

SUPPORT FOR ROBBIE

After a bumpy offseason — and that may be putting it lightly, considering his trade request — not only did winger Nick Robertson put the past few months aside, he dominated through the preseason.

No, the five goals Robertson scored don’t count in his career statistics, but it’s a heck of a lot better than being quiet in the past couple of weeks.

The next step is for Robertson to build on it once the fun gets real in Montreal on Wednesday in the regular-season opener against the Canadiens and beyond. The thinking is Robertson will slot in on the Leafs’ third line to start, perhaps with Pontus Holmberg in the middle and Pacioretty on the other side. It’s not top six, but it’s not the fourth line either.

Importantly, captain Auston Matthews and the Leafs witnessed a difference in Robertson’s approach.

“He definitely took a step, and it’s great to see,” Matthews said. “He’s one of the harder workers you’ll see, and he cares so much."

“I just find he’s a little bit more relaxed this year. Sometimes when you want it so bad, it can almost be counterproductive, I believe. He wants it, and he works and he competes, and I feel like he has had a bit of a different attitude this year in a positive way."

“It showed in the games that he’s been playing and the way that he’s been able to produce. That’s great for us as a team to have a guy like that step up.”
