One thought crossed my mind...did he go out there and have the pre-season of his life to try to gain attention, ideally resulting in the Leafs receiving better offers so that he can get his trade request fulfilled?

I've liked his game in pre-season, winning battles more and of course the scoring is nice, pk an added bonus.

I don't think so, he just looks like his game has matured a bit.

Absolutely what we should expect! He’s a bit of a victim of early hype, but he’s actually developing quite nicely.

Still only 23.

tenacious forechecker.
which we need on our slow team.

Nylander is the only core guy with speed.

Unfortunate but he's probably playing Wednesday.

Maintenance day. A bunch of guys are hurt already.

Pre season is too long.

I saw they're talking about 4 pre season games and 84 regular in the future. I'd rather that than more pre season.

Agreed and I think he played through injury yesterday and looked great. I think he solidified his position and they are just being precautionary

The thing is.. that is the way he plays all the time. He just is 100% in, all the time. In some ways he's even had to dial it back a bit.

Yes, he's gotten strong enough for that style to be a bit more effective now versus just getting planted on his ass in the corner.

I don't care either way as long as the team is good but as I said, just a thought that crossed my mind.

If he was 6’3 220lbs he’d be untouchable

If he was 6'3, he'd be way more effective.
Both fair points.

The only one who wishes more than the Leafs that Robertson was 6’3 is Nick Robertson himself.

He’s a guy who has had to learn to play to his size due to his injury history.

If he was 6’3, he would just be a filthy player who would try to run over people and then wire the puck to finish.

5 goals in pre-season, a one man wrecking ball, speedy, motivated, price-effective contract...yet he wants to be traded.

Lmao, I’m sorry what.
You feeling like any of the bolded paragraph is true is solely on you. Awful take.

Robertson with proper ice time and powerplay almost certainly outscores every other non-core forward on this team but we don’t have a role for his skillset?
Not my take. Team's take. I hate it to death.
Read it again, Cipher

This small guy is a piece of feces, and scored > 30 goals twice.

But note when they doubled his playing time 2012-2013 ... 2013-2014 ... his scoring didn't double.

Stay healthy, and contribute offensively.

He should be a 20+ goal scorer, but he has to stay healthy.

...And he's hurt again. Reason #1 of why we should move on from him as early as possible. Leaf players tend to be marked and I just don't think his small stature can handle the punishment.

If it was regular season he's likely playing. I think it's much more important that he kept playing and scored two goals after getting nicked.

Robertson wont get the chance, though.

All the indicators of the preseason seem to lean towards both Patches and Lorentz being locks for this team, and that their PTOs are actually just placeholders for their eventual NHL contracts. They took a chance on this team being good - and in return, they were essentially promised contracts that will fit under the cap, following some wizardry from Pridham and team.

That said, I can't help but feel NRob is also a known commodity by the team. Him scoring is not a surprise to management. They know he can score. They just don't feel like they have a role for his skillset on this team. In fact, it sincerely feels like this is a 'parade and trade' moment for Nick instead of a genuine audition. The kid can do no more than he's done now, to change minds. They think they know what he is. And they think he's 1 dimensional.

He will absolutely play in the NHL this year for someone, and even get his 20-25 goals - it'll just be on a team where it likely doesn't matter. Only problem with all of this is, it's the Leafs. So clearly it will go down as another Leafy thing that got away - and be painted starkly as a choice of an over the hill Patches vs some kid who went on to score boatloads of goals for some bottom feeder.
Make them line 3...bingo.

Can he become a point a game player in the NHL? Or even 70 points?
Sure why?

If he can play in Pk and have an impact in the defensive end, he will be 100% sure in leafs top 9

He was too much unidimentionnal by the past but looking much better without the puck
