Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign Kurtis Gabriel to 1 year contract (750k)

If you are going to be concerned with small sample size, Barabanov is clearly next Panarin.

I truly wish he manages to get a spot in NHL. I loved his dad and want nothing but the best for him. Seems like a good kid and those dreamy eyes

Same with Verhaege. There is no guranteed these guys would have had the same opportunity playing for the leafs

It has been death by a thousand cuts with Kyle thus far.

Nothing is ever considered big enough to "get worked up over". Yet here we are, ever so slightly being on the losing end of most decisions.

And sample size is a funny thing. Try telling the majority (not all) of Leafs fans that sample size is important. How many times have we seem Bunting planted next to Matthews and Marner in a lineup? Just last year we had Lehtonen in the top 4 (some had him next to Morgan lolz). We've seen proposals of Robertson in the top 6. Not long ago there was a push for Trevor Moore to play there. Andreas Johnsson, Mikheyev, the list is endless.

Nick is a beast. An immovable force on ice. So so strong on his skates. And so so strong on da puck. And he has never lost a fight in his life. If he was a bit faster he would be a great player. But he isn't. He can stabilize either JT or Matty's line. Hopefully we can land 1 more Nick type to stabilize another line. Kurtis likely only plays against teams with heavy's but he can move back and forth between Leafs and Marlies as needed.

Even better news these guys are both a little mentally unstable by nature so no one including Dubie can moderate these guys on ice or in dressing room. In room it will get more edgy. And practice will change too. Nick has run over many guys on his own team in practice over da years. He is a bit like Wendy no OFF switch. Should help Dermy and Muzzy play more of their physical game. And guys like Rielly and Mitch will have to keep their heads up and play ball. Wayner will be fine either way just his personality.

Yep Ritchie hasn’t lost a fight. He’s just good at it when he goes. Bull is correct but the Bulls hands are as fast as lightening. Gabriel is this year’s Dell if they think they can waive him. With money being tight teams might not want to pay him the $750,000 in the minors might work to pass him through waivers. ( likely taken off waivers)
Personally i think he is going to be 13 forward. All he has to do is be in great shape and take care of defensive responsibilities and we have a solid signing. He’s the kind of player that could go to the net and cause havoc on the 4th line. He will lay a hit on at every opportunity and skates well. I like him as 13 th forward and Right Wing depth.Kase RW really has nothing sewn up for me. He might not even make it past the doctors office.

I'm happy Simmonds has some back up this year.

I'm betting every player is going to play bigger and meaner, when they know they got multiple guys who are going to jump in every scrum.

Watch Matthew's, Marner, Muzzin, Rielly, Holl play with some edge this year

he's 28 , has played 49 career games and is just a face puncher yet people think he's making the team ? lol

according to CapFriendly we can fit 21 players under the cap at this time and Gabriel won't be one of them

What would be any different than any other year ?

Simmonds hasn't come back or been good for past 5 years. Is he magically going to be better ?

But you did say better instead of saying he'll be good. He can't be worse than last year so yeah he'll be better

Simmonds is done. He has been done for long time.

Fans are waiting for Lucic to find his scoring touch, same with Neal, same with Johansson in Nashville and same with Subban

Very few players ever really come back to themselves at that age

Use your brain

We paying simmonds peanuts. We not expecting 30 goals. We need him to park his ass in front of the net, create scoring chances in tight and throw knuckles.

He is more than capable of doing that on the 4th line.

If you bothered to watch the games, you can see he has soft hands in front of the net, and can beat the f*** out of the big guys in NHL.

Dubas might be playing smoke and Mirrors with us and has not intentions of giving Gabriel a roster spot even if he plays tough defensively solid hockey and protects our team.

Gabriel could get waived by Dubas and given no chance to play. I hope thats not the case because Gabriel can give good minutes on the fourth line playing tough and defensive energetic and nasty. We need players that want to get their pound of flesh every shift like this guy.
The ones saying he won’t make the team are the same ones that didn’t want Matty Martin who has played great for the Islanders since leaving and has played a regular shift. He pounds teams hard and scores a few too.
Can Gabriel play a disciplined quality defensive game is the only question. If he does he should play 4th line. Nobody wants a sideshow. He’s not a sideshow and doesn’t have to be

I see a 23 man roster over there right now with 15 forwards 6 defensemen and two tenders and for some reason a projected $1,395,000 ltir.

can't tell you why they put the overage on ltir but the fact remains we have to be cap compliant by the start of the season which means the team has to lose 1.4m in salary

Kase/Gabriel/Brooks/Bunting , pick any 2 imo at this time not being on the roster , could also be 3 forwards sent down if thy want to keep both Sandin and Lily on the roster

Yeah it’s a strange way they have it set on capfriendly right now. We need to carry 7 defense. Even if Kase was put on LTIR immediately it isn’t right.…
Maybe there is a trade or two coming. It seems needed

unless they can find someone to take Kerfoot they'll probably just waive/demote until they get cap compliant

It'll make up for all those players Dubas drafted who have been underachieving to this point.

21 players? I think with Gabriel they might just make it.

One of Gabriel, Brooks or Joey Anderson will likely be the 13th forward, as they are all question marks to clear waivers.



There was a lot of interest in Gabriel on Day 1 of free agency.

The first game of the season is against Montreal. I hope he is in. The next two are Ottawa and i hope he is in again. Definitely give him them 3 and see how he plays defensively on the fourth line checking role. Hello Chiarot my name is Mr Gabriel and i know that because i got Matthews to check for me. All of Ritchie,Gabriel and Simmonds pounding Chiarot in game one is a must to send a message to our team,not their team. I would prefer Matthews went after Chiarot too. The guy busted up his back early season last year and takes way to many healthy runs at him. Matthews needs to send a message and some good cross checks back his way. He can do that with Ritchie watching out for him.

Austin Watson and Tkachuk need a tuning in the Ottawa games. Not so much Tkachuk he’s just a good physical player. Lol I actually like him but he needs to get tuned too.

Anyways, these guys don’t just get to run around with no implications any longer and the message needs to be sent to our roster first and foremost and all other teams that took shots with nothing to worry about. They are going to worry now. It’s nice to have a couple guys to take care of things

Crap this post got long ha. It’s important thete are no freebies for liberties with our stars. Tavares took a pounding too.
