He's a bloody depth defender who signed at league minimum.

He can play in the NHL.

If they have a prospect ready he'll play, if not and injuries happen he's there.

What is wrong with some of you?
What’s wrong is they didn't get any roster players that make the team better then last year so it looks like they are just going to do a rerun of last year with a few players swapped out. I’m guessing fans are still rattled and on edge of the Murray fiasco trade

I think he’ll stick around as the healthy scratch the can will play when there’s injuries. I could be wrong but I don’t think he’ll be in the AHL and he’ll only play if there are injuries.

Depending on the cap situation, of course.....but I agree. Pressbox time.

The way I see it, for both Mete and Benn:
a) Insurance in case Sandin negotiations are going bad
b) Preceding a trade; they aren't carrying 9 dmen.
c) One or both are heading to the AHL.

Our current depth on the blueline is solid. Benn is a decent option to have for the 3rd pairing if we get hit hard by injuries.

We simply can't afford him at <enter AAV>

I liked <enter ex-Leaf name>, and wanted to keep him but <enter AAV> was too rich for our blood.

Common theme for the past few years.

The same can be said about virtually every team that spends to the cap... sign good players, players perform well, need raise, no room. This is such a silly argument.

Lol this is so twisted.

Boosh stunk and it looks bad on both Keefe and Dubas that they even got him, let alone played him as much as they did. Easily our worst defenseman and could well have cost us the series.
I liked Boosh. He brought an element that we lacked. I am not disappointed that we lost him at 2.75, but he was a good guy to add near the deadline.

All of these points are very valid. Bush (no matter what anyone says) is an extremely solid #6 defenseman that can excel beside a puck moving defenseman.

The issue is that the Leafs for some inexplicable reason love to tie Rielly down with a boat anchor beside him, which causes Rielly's offensive to drop, but also causes a guy like Bush's defense to drop because Rielly is arguably the worst defensive defenseman in the league relative to role. It's like they believe it will balance them out, but it really just hinders them both.
Didn't Rielly have his best season to date, by a good margin, next to Hainsey?

With a lot of contemplating...I am lost as to where Benn is to play on this team.

Is he now considered a Marlie or TOR's 7th D?

Where does Sandin and Mete fit?

Can Benn play RD as a left handed shot?

What is KD's plan here?

He should be a Marlie, who needed a veteran RD who can be solid defensively.

He is done as an NHLer, but may have another year or two in him as a top 4 AHL guy.

I imagine one d-man will end up being traded. Another defenceman is a possibility to end up on waivers. Of course, Sandin still has to be signed to a new contract.

So...people are placing him on the Marlies based on the depth at LD and his min. salary? He did play for MIN last season. Is it possible that he's now our *New* 6th defenseman?

Sure, it is possible. Training Camp will sort out who is on the team at least to start the season.

Sounds like a late September/early October problem.
