McCabe has been very good. He's pretty much what everyone has been craving here for a long-time. Functional physicality. He brings a lot of big hits, he can move the puck and he's a warrior.

This contract is a little long for his age maybe but hardly anything outrageous.

Contracts like this make me appreciate Kyper. He's been talking about McCabe getting 6M+ for the last week. He completely changed my expectation for this deal which makes me happy to see it at 4.5M.

We will not be a playoff team in 5 years so who cares. Between Matthews deal expiring and I doubt he is re-signing this time, and Marner likely being gone, with no real studs in the pipeline this team will be treading water for a few years or able to get a few good years out of some good UFA signings, but by that part of their deal they will be in decline.

So basically, we are all in. Let's hope we get close before another decade of refusing to rebuild keeps us in mediocrity.
