PPG over the last few seasons gives the edge to MacKinnon. Stanley Cup I'd say helps too

You know MacKinnon was third on his team in scoring during the Cup win? He was outscored by 5 points by his own defenceman.

You think Colorado loses that Stanley Cup with Matthews? That team was stacked, it's not like MacK carried them. MacK was outscored by 5 points... by a defenceman on his team and Rantanen.

No team will win a cup with Matthews as their highest paid player, term doesn't even matter that much in that regard.

The man has chased money at every single point in his career. As a person I respect it. As a fan of the team he'd be the last superstar I'd want to lead my team

It is an overpay but Treliving was handcuffed thanks to the damage done by Dubas.
The contracts he gave the 3 youngsters were a joke and that screwed the Leafs for this next go round of negotiations.
Had those contracts been more reasonable and for what should have been 8 years none of this mess would even be happening.
The Dubas curse will haunt this team for years.

Now do Matthews vs MacKinnon playoff points per game

Why is he being paid more than MacKinnon? Why couldn't they sign him to max term? There goes our depth along with Nylander, a much better and proven playoff performer. Just awful.
Through their first 7 seasons in the NHL:

Mackinnon: 0.36G/GP 0.94 PPG

Matthews: 0.62G/GP 1.13 PPG

Better player at a younger age and you should expect better production through his prime years than Mack is having as well. If he doesn't produce that way then sure it is fair to ask why he is making more but his age 18-25 production is wayy better.

Could be better, could be worse. He's a mercenary, but a very good one. Here's to hoping the team gets the right mix of players to surround him with.

Mercenary is the exact term to describe him. Imagine being this guys teammate and knowing that he’s supposed to be the face of the franchise.

Pathetic to even compare him to Sundin like that one post earlier in terms of goals scored. No one cares about how many meaningless regular season goals you’ve scored. Sundin clearly loved this franchise and city and came up clutch on much crappier teams.

People go to great lengths to make excuses for our core and lack of playoff success. Our team is also stacked having Marner, Nylander and Tavares in our top 6 and we barely got a whiff of the 2nd round. Matthews was just outscored by Rielly in our last playoff run as well.

How is it bad? He's got another year on his current deal plus his 4 year extension so It's really a 5 year deal and now he's signed through his 20's

He's likely committed his entire prime here.
I can’t imagine it was that hard for him considering how much he’s being paid.

MacKinnon has made it out of the 2nd round once in his career too.

Does the last place finish to secure the D they needed since Mac couldn't accomplish anything on his own help or hurt?
Did Mac join Avs with players like Marner and Nylander with him and then Tavares 2 year later?

Your name has "Clark" in it. One of the most overrated players in leafs history. How ironic
just like your posts how Ironic, telling Hyman to take league min because his family is rich lol, another bad take, he made it to the show, puts his body on the line every night to take league min, you cant be a serious poster. what a take lol

I never said that.

The question has always been what is the market value for AM?

Mack signed for 12.6mil last summer and the cap only increased by 1.5mil.
It increased by 1 million between the seasons in the deals which were sign. Given that the cap is pretty much guaranteed to go up to at least 87.5 next season, that will be a 4M cap increase between in which the deals take effect.

What does that even mean

People ignore the fact Matthews has the more decorated resume because individual stats don't matter.

Now, because MacKinnon was third on scoring on an incredibly stacked team - he's supposed to be better? Matthews has almost always been top 3 in scoring in the playoffs on the Leafs.

MacKinnon for all his playoff stats, has made it out of the 2nd round once in his NHL career (and he's older) and he was carried by Makar.

MacKinnon = 1.299 p/gp
Matthews = 0.88 p/gp

And Matthews has been outscored by Marner in the playoffs and Marner himself is a rubbish playoff performer under pressure.

Matthews=0.88 p/gp
Marner = 0.94 p/gp

There's no point, because individual stats don't matter.

MacKinnon seems to be the best player who's top achievement is the Calder.
What drugs are you on ffs? Has won a Stanley Cup, and his top achievement is the Calder? His top individual award is the Calder, yes, but his biggest accomplishment/achievement is winning the Cup.

Regular season individual stats don't matter, you're right.

Now tell me why Matthews deserves more than a guy who's outperformed him in the playoffs?

Now lets do playoffs.

Matthews vs. MacKinnon in the playoffs (7 years):

Matthews: 22 goals, 44 points.

MacKinnon: 44 goals, 100 points.

I rest my case.
