Tre won free agency with the Tanev + OEL combo.
You realize they aren't one year contracts right?

Well this goes for a good percentage of players in the NHL when signed. You still have to give Tre credit for making several great movesYou realize they aren't one year contracts right?

Tanev
OEL
Stolarz
And add in the PTO of Lorentz
Great adds that bring championship experience to the team
Regressed from looking like a Norris caliber #1 D to a legit top 4 guy ... at 3.5 million ... what a failure of a signing...Lorentz dropped off after game 2, OEL has regressed from the start of the season, and so has Stolarz, Tanev has been good, but not great.
OEL is the only person who played a significant role in the Cup win...
I think overall it was a good offseason, but the length of some of the contracts worries me, and pretending like these are "several great moves" is not reality...

Now you are just making shit up.Tanev has been good, but not great.
Tanev looks like the most important addition to the Toronto Maple Leafs this season (though Anthony Stolarz has a case), showcasing a level of mastery on the back end this team hasn’t seen since peak Jake Muzzin. And even Muzzin probably wasn’t at quite this level.
Squaring off against top-line competition every night, Tanev has been on the ice for only 11 five-on-five goals in 23 games. That’s actually a smidge more than the expected number of goals against: 10.5.
In the nine games Auston Matthews missed in November, Tanev was caught on the ice for one measly five-on-five goal against.
Among the nearly 150 NHL defenders who have logged at least 300 five-on-five minutes this season, Tanev ranks eighth in expected goal rate defensively, fourth in the number of shots surrendered and fifth in the high-danger attempt department.
This is what an elite defender looks like.
Now you are just making shit up.
I should really take my own advice and just block notbias and Dekes for Days.

Maybe if you could read, that would be a start! Siegel loves his analytics and provides plenty in the article. It's not up to me to do the reading for you, you have time to get into pedantic arguments 24/7 on this site but apparently this article is too much too read for your wittle brain.
Nobody was talking about McCabe, you completely shifted the discussion to say Tanev has not been great, when he has been. He's literally been elite defensively. You're just mad that the contract isn't looking shit at the moment like you hoped it would.McCabe has better analytics and actual stats... Sorry you are struggling with this.
The Tanev-McCabe pairing has been great, they have been the two best D by most metrics so it is not surprising, but McCabe > Tanev so far.

'I kNow u ArE bUt WhAt aM I' ass argument this is completely pointless when you constantly argue in bad faith, but it is what it is, I don't care anymoreTanev has been good, but not great.
McCabe has been great.
Who are we supposed to compare the players to? The league? He will still look good and not great.
The pairing of McCabe - Tanev has been great.
You're just mad that you can't grasp an understanding of the word "great".

It is amusing how even after getting Tanev we still need a partner for Rielly lol. Hopefully Hakanpaa heals up for playoffs or we get another piece so that OEL can play with Timmins. He's also now being asked to play his offside and not every player succeeds when attempting this.
The Samoskevic giveaway and then the turnover on TB's first goal are possibly the two weakest plays he's made all season and both are in part a byproduct of playing on his weakside and being forced to make a play on his backhand under pressure. Usually being a very good skater with strong agility is very important when making this transition and that's not really OEL's forte. His puckmoving ability and hitting players in stride with good outlet passing also looks to have taken a hit. Once you went with the McCabe- Tanev pairing, I guess this was the first attempt especially with Hakanpaa either not healthy or looking totally shot but I don't think this is a smart idea if we're looking to get the best out of OEL.
The numbers dont look very good with the Rielly-OEL pairing.

Should be in the top 50 ever for goals by a defenseman by years end.I remember when we signed him—85% of this board was crying about what a horrible signing it was and questioning what Brad was thinking, blah blah blah. Now everyone loves him. I defended the signing from the beginning, it just goes to show that the majority of people on this board have no idea what they're talking about.
