Finally some solid defensive guys for the Marlies.

We have far too many bodies now though. Something will have to give.

LD Kristians Rubins – RD Mac Hollowell
LD Carl Dahlstrom – RD Filip Kral
LD Teemu Kivihalme – RD Joseph Duszak
LD Noel Hoefenmayer – RD Ben Finkelstein

Depth defensemen with experience.

Every team adds some of those.

Both can play an NHL shift, so they will probably get in if we have a ton of injuries and Sandin/Menell are already in the lineup, but they should finally make the Marlies defense respectable.

We may trade both Kivihalme and one of Duszak/Hollowell at this point. Get some of those offensive guys out, and then you still have a chance for the younger Hoefenmayer and maybe an AHL contract like Finkelstein to step in as our 4th pairing.

Sounds like the title for the 2021 season preview.

I feel like this season is the season where our stars have no choice but to step up in the playoffs because if it's the same old performances:

A) Dubas and likely Shanahan are gone which means by extension that so is the entire coaching staff.
B) At least 1 if not 2 core players are also gone because a team can only lose in the first round so much before it decides to change direction.

I guess we'll find out how much these guys really like playing for each other because anything less than an amazing run is going to be the end of this core.

For that reason, even though there aren't many changes, this season promises to be an exciting one (in the playoffs).

Hopefully they can get that far.

I said this to a friend earlier:

I don't have any faith in the Leafs doing well in the playoffs because you have to be the most optimistic person in the world to believe in them after 5 straight first round exits but I also have no doubt that they are going to make the playoffs.

Making the playoffs isn't hard for this team even if it is the Atlantic division. Winning in the playoffs seems like an impossible task for this team regardless of the team they face. For some reason winning 4 games out of 7 is just too hard for this team.

If by experience you mean "Failed Buffalo Sabre" and "guy with zero goals and 10 assists in the NHL who has been scraping by in the Swedish league".....

Is Dubas purposefully trying to ruin this team?

Deep breath.

Marlies signings. How hard is it to comprehend the obvious?
