Not willing to lose Pierre for nothing.

I think you have to keep him as the 21st player on the roster. Yes that means sending one of Sandin or Liljegren down to the Marlies for now. Both will get lots of games this year.

What the heck?

He scores 1 pre-season goal and he's no longer the Engvall we saw in the playoffs (or his career)?
He's a fringe depth player and paid like one. His production and role are perfectly fine for what he's paid. What is difficult to understand? The fanbase just loves it's scapegoats.

If the coach was looking for "separation" tonight then he's straight out of luck. There's not a lot to choose between a bunch of these players.

None of them showed any sense of urgency. If they want calmness they're got that, for sure.

Agreed. Kerfoot and Holl included.

He's not a scapegoat, but he's not that good a hockey player either.

Does this guy still post his drivel on the main boards? I blocked him a few years ago. The only poster on my blocked list.
Islanders' fan now. They can do no wrong.

Nose is so far up Lou's ass, I'm surprised he can breathe.

how many emergency fill in 2Cs did better in the playoffs than Kerfoot last year?

How many emergency 2C fill ins got to play with the best performer on the team scoring a goal almost every game?

Are you ready to claim Kerfoot is the reason for Nylander's performance? From what I saw Nylander carried that line.

Also the team using Kerfoot as their 2C choked a series away to the Habs so can't tell if you're even serious right now.

Also nice way to misconstrue what I said. When I mentioned the fill in 2C I merely meant it's not enough reason to consider him untouchable.

Matthews has to get a little Sittler in him. Answer some challenges.
Need more than a part-timer to stand up for mates.

All he really needs to do is cruise around with more of an alert, upright posture with hands up and braced for collisions while making himself as big as possible. When guys take runs, just accidentally on purpose get your stick way up, elbows out, hip out and just make sure it hurts. There's no real reason why a punk like Ben Chiarot should be allowed to hack and slash, cross check and abuse without getting a lot worse back. And with some more size and backup there should be the confidence to have the right back up.

A player like Engvall really shouldn't attract so much scorn. If he's vanilla and somewhat underwhelming it's because 4th liners aren't usually remarkable players. Sure he doesn't fill some ultra specialist role but he's a good athlete with reach and a ton of speed. He could be on the team or not, but probably the last guy to get worked up about.

LESSGOOO CAMPBELL. DO THIS SHIT IN THE REGULAR SEASON PLS AND DONT MAKE ME REGRET DRAFTING YOU!!!!
VEZINA SZN

I wish to call attention to a very real fact....The level of hockey has gone up exponentially in recent years.

Heck twenty years ago, only four or five guys per NHL club could skate...

Edge work was almost non existent...

Every team in the NHL has similar problems as the Leafs do, heck the freakin Coyotes didn't pursue a guy most of this board is claiming as the next Messiah... Bunting.. And yeah I like him as well.

Hockey for me is fun to watch again. The level of execution is sick....

Only thing I miss , is more players having the Al Mcinnis slapper. Guess I cannot have everything on my timetable.

I wouldn't say that, Sandin impressed again tonight. Played very well and should be knocking on the door to make the team. Question is are the Leafs willing to put up with the growing pains that comes with Sandin playing in the NHL. I think the plan should be having Sandin/Lilly as the 6th D rotating them in and out of the line up beside Dermot or Holl.

Forwards wise its a wash, you already know the majority of the forwards are, the 13th,14th forward spots are the only ones up for grabs at this point.

I think he is a bit of a scapegoat, he has the tools and the size, but jut so inconsistent and almost lackadaisical sometimes . That's what drives the fans crazy.

I think they will play Sandin over Lilly, because Sandin has the potential to be a Rielly replacement and they want to see what he can do. Otherwise, he would be in the AHL for another season of seasoning and Lilly would be in with Dermott as the 3rd pairing. They won't run with both Sandin and Lilly.

I really want to see Brooks be given an extended look.

He's looking promising and I could see a 40 point pace this year from him (he'll play 30-40 games at best case)
If Brooks doesn't catch on here then I hope he gets claimed and gets a good chance with another team.

Waivers are for the benefit of the player, and I'm all for this player. I think he's earned a shot, here or elsewhere.

I can see the Leafs losing a NHL player to open the season. Could be Brooks or Engvall, although Engvall has only got into one game he's shown more than some others who've been given good looks.

Kase did not look good last night, although I believe the team has liked his camp.

I think by not giving Sandin or Lili a chance season after season its very contradictory to the message Keefe gives in the room. That I don't care about the score tonight, I'm building you up for the playoff war. We're building to be the best we can be in the playoffs. If management thinks this team is so great, they should be working towards that ultimate goal, not worrying about Sandin making a mistake against a team like Ottawa or Montreal in the first month of the season.
