Post-Game Talk: Leafs Salvage A Point | Lose 6-5 in Shootout.

We used to get them easily, remember clark, Roberts, Tucker, gilmour, tie domi, corson, marchment, Bryan mccabe, etc. Players like this are woven in the DNA of the maple leafs, they embody the soul and identity of this team.

It’s been an organizational blind spot to be sure since the end of the Sundin era. Difficult to find those types and even tougher to retain them. Who do we have that fits the mold? Knies is close, McMann has the size and skill but he doesn’t have much snarl to him. Domi is greasy but he doesn’t play with much physicality, but he at least has a competitive attitude and brings some level of push back. Laughton is supposed to fit this mold but he’s never been a high scorer, gotta hope his level of competitiveness continues to increase and reaches its maximum come playoff time.

After that it’s not much. We know who the Core Four are. Robertson is small, inconsistent, and untrustworthy. Jarnkrok is still playing catch-up and while I’d say he’s gritty he doesn’t fit this mold either. Everyone else up front is a fourth liner.

Leafs need to do better at identifying and either developing or acquiring these types at forward. Unfortunately we traded a potential one in Grebenkin away for one who is supposed to fit this niche right now in Laughton. At least Cowan is still in the organization for now.

At least our defence has some real warriors on it now.

let me premise this by saying we are in agreement at least that woll was borderline unplayable tonight, he was horrendous and a huge reason we lost that game

Despite that we choked hard, our penalty kill is fraudulent, itll cost us like always.

Putting 6 shots on net in OT doesn’t dismiss how we only mustered 29 against the sharks. Our pp gave up a 2 on 1, woll should’ve saved that but why are we giving up a 2 on 1 and then taking that 1 man out on a pp.

And biggest of all, Auston Matthews showing yet again he doesn’t have a single clutch bone in that body of his with all the chances he missed. He’s just the biggest loser this sport has seen. Jumbo Joe and Marleau can at least rest easy knowing they aren’t as bad as Matthews in that regard.

This was once again a game we needed to win, “NO IFS OR BUTS”. I don’t give a damn if woll let in 9, we should’ve scored 10. No excuses, absolutely none.
 
Willie, how do you guys feel after giving up another point to a non playoff team?

How much times do I have to tell you Hes injured though no goalie can face Matthews head up when he’s not he could easily mail it in and not play I’m not a professional player but something tells me you need your wrist to shoot and your bacc for power
 
Big talent Leafs mail it in for two periods.

Then show up last minute of the third. Expecting to pull out a big win. Just like the rabbit in the the tortoise and the hare story.

Too bad they lost just like the rabbit did too.

The Toskala goal is still the worst ever. But that one by Woll tonight is close. I think it's fair to lay blame for this loss entirely on him.

If you're looking for someone to blame, blame him, blame Woll.

He was terrible and there's simply no way to sugarcoat his performance. His best saves looked spectacular only because he was so out of position they needed to be. Then when the team bailed him out last minute he loses it in the shutout.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The resume of this team with embarrassing situations grows much faster than the good situations.

It shouldn’t be a shock to fans to see them losing to bottom feeders. Arizona had their way with them for a good stretch. If your bottom 5 in the league your chances to win are pretty good.

I think the injury excuse no longer fly’s. He has been like this the entire season.
If he was in fact injured it must never be going to heal. He is just a loser that cares more about the money and American……..send him packing

If there wasn't a 4 Nations tournament he would've been off for the entire regular season like Stone and Kucherov were.
