Leafs powerplay simply unacceptable given the amount of money on it

I don't want to hear a single person try and blame Savard before they do that. How many years now with how many different coaches, strategies, etc and the PP has been unacceptably awful every year.

The PP lost them their series last year when they went 4%. What have they shown to suggest the PP won't be a detriment in any playoff series again this year?

The thing that really is unacceptable is we have a Hart and Rocket winner, one of the best players and passers in the league, a guy who recently was top 3 in the NHL in goals, and other star talent and yet they can't even consistently gain the zone nevermind generate chances.

The biggest issue with this team's PP is simple. They lack a shot from the point. There is literally no threat from the blue line, which means every team can play man-on-man defense against the Leafs forwards and allow Rielly to skate along the blue line harmlessly for 2 minutes.

How do you guys think that players like Steven Stamkos and OV always had open shots to score? Why could no one ever stop them even though everyone knew that's where the puck was going? Because of Hedman in Tampa and Carlson in Washington. Toronto has no such comparable and thus Matthews one timer almost never gets utilized.

It's not even that they went 0 for. It's the extreme level of ineptness it displays. Can't win the initial faceoff. Can't enter the zone cleanly. Can't make more than 1 tape to tape pass. Can't win puck recovery battles. CAN'T!

How the people in charge just keep trotting out the same shit for 42 games now is shameful.

I don't know what the answer is, but it is not this.

Just sitting back and saying, ah, they are all great players, they'll figure it out is next level stupid at this point.

That's the thing with this core, none of them get pissed off. None of them show any emotion, other than crying after another first round loss. All your leaders cannot be like that... you need a few guys that get angry.

you would think that if you have 4 guys who are objectively elite at deflections and rifling broken scrambles from the slot, there would be some prioritization on getting them opportunities to deflect shots and rifle broken scrambles in the slot. Just spitballing but I’m thinking maybe if someone was able to shoot the puck from the point, those guys could tip those shots and/or collect it off the ensuing block/rebound scramble.

Don’t get me wrong I do appreciate the workman like effort in making sure everyone on the unit gets their cardio in by immediately losing the zone, having 1 guy skate the length of the ice to retrieve it, having another guy skate the length of the ice to recieve the inevitable drop pass, losing it at the line, and having guys 3 and 4 chase and drop pass.

I don't know why they're so averse to breaking up the foursome of Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares. They're the constants on the first unit PP and always fail when the going gets tough. I don't know why the coaches can't simply split them in half and have two on each unit. Who gives a f*** about their salaries, letters, or feelings? I guess the coaches and organization do, because they're going to continue trotting out those four with a random fifth member every powerplay, watch them f*** around for a minute and a half, then shrug their shoulders when we come away empty-handed on the man advantage.

Like at least get a little creative with it. It can't be any worse than it has been, and we know what will happen in the playoffs if this trend continues.

It's like every other pressure-filled moment for this weak-willed core. The PP has just become the new Game 7. The new down by one with the net empty. The new "must win to prove we're for real" rivalry game. The next back-to-back, same day travel, EBUG travesty.

When it comes down to it, as is customary with Morgan and the 4 amigos - they are incapably inescapably soft in the tummy, when it comes to rising to the challenge of literally any "big" moment. It's bloody sad. And our Sports Psychology department needs to get fired into the sun!!!!!!@@@@@

I used to think this way but then Matthews leaves the lineup and the team goes red hot while Rielly is playing the same way. More likely they are way too predictable and going through the motions

Starts when your PP QB doesn’t even know how to shoot. Automatic non threat. All he does is pass to the wall. It’s all perimeter play. It’s f***ing atrocious.

They’re too slow on entry and they can’t make enough accurate passes when they get in the zone. Therefore the D and the goalie have time to get into position to defend.

They have no point shot and are extremely predictable. They’re afraid to get dirty and go to the net.

Would love to replace Rielly in the lineup this off-season with Chychrun.

Extremely predictable, way too cutesy with slow passes, little movement, unwilling to play anywhere but the perimeter (point to the corner to the point again and again!), no point threat.. all obvious but they just keep trying the same people with the same plays.

It is simple. Go to the net hard and throw the puck there.

Leafs have 4 of the top 10 highest paid players in the league and PP operating at 18th overall.

The Leafs PP runs through Magic Mitch, a so called playmaking & passing savant.

The results speak for themselves.

Without a strong PP the Leafs will be an easy out come playoff time again.
