This trade would benefit both teams…short term only as both players are going to get paid this offseason.

It sucks that we’re losing a fan favourite but if this swap occurs then I believe it would be beneficial to both teams….for this years playoff run only

TO gets that shooter on the PP and should solidify the top 6 while Van gets a play making winger besides Garland to help out Pettersson & Miller as they struggle.

A straight up Canadian hockey trade to help each other in their divisions

What do you guys think?

Interesting proposal Jack. I think it needs some fine tuning to balance it out tho:

To Toronto: Brock Boeser, Hoglander, Desharnais, Kunz, 2027 6th round pick

To Vancouver: Marner (10% retained), 2026 2nd, 2027 3rd
Well, we do have a unprotected 1st to throw out there if sh*t goes sideways as a lot of people are predicting and hoping for but I’d like to use that on a true #3 D-man…….maybe we could take Rielly off their hands?

So the Canucks get to add crap and cap dumps and Toronto has to add a 2nd and a 3rd.

Nice.

It makes no sense. As a rental Marner is worth quite a bit more. With the OPs presumption that neither will sign and go UFA, this makes no sense for the Leafs. I also do think Marner will stick around (whether overpaid heavily or not). Also wouldn’t be my first choice to overpay him.

Mariner is a better offensive player but I honestly would rather have Boeser. Boeser is good defensively, shows up come playoffs, brings decent size and is hard to push around. There’s also going to be a big difference in their cap hit which allows us to add other pieces.

Sure, if all other things equal.

But in a world where Brock is going to get $8m, and Marner $13m, I'd take Brock quite easily
The idea behind this proposal was neither player was going to re-sign with the acquiring team.

No show Mitch has 50 points in 57 playoff games, vs. 23 in 29 games for Brock. So, I'm not sure I see much difference.

Is there an inside joke I'm not aware of? Is this a payback troll proposal? Did a Leafs fan propose Pettersson for Knies or something?

Surely this isn't a serious offer.
not trying to be funny or trolling but I think both these players are going to hit the UFA market regardless of what our franchises do.

Swap em out and see what happens

Why not shake things up and take a chance…I know I’m tired of the same old sh*t

I mean, it wouldn’t happen 1-for-1, Leafs would want more but I’d still prefer to keep Boeser over Marner, Boeser’s last playoff run is better than anything Marner has done in a single playoff run.

I can see preferring Boeser, they play very different roles. And the Nucks don't have many pure goal scorers, so there's that. In a vacuum, I still think Mitch is more valuable, which you acknowledge.

Boeser is a 60-70 point guy who will probably score 30 goals on the leafs... maybe he'd hit 40 again if he had really good chemistry with a C.
Marner is a 90 point guy lol... i'm a Canucks fan but this doesnt make a ton of sense for the leafs.

What would happen is everyone in the Leafs management positions would be unemployed within minutes of making this trade.

And that's being conservative. He's averaging 107 points per 82 games over the last 4 seasons including this one.

He's a 100+ point talent with a Selke nom under his belt.

Marner is tied for 4th in scoring as I type and Boeser is tied for..... 120th place.

EDIT: Since Boeser missed games, let's be fair to him. Marner is 8th league wide in PPG and Boeser is 96th while being significantly worse than Marner defensively.

Not a fair trade, in the playoffs Boeser is the type of guy that will score a hat trick at the end of the game to will his team to overtime and win. Whereas Marner will take a delay of game penalty rather than take a hit, then rip off his team at the contract table come negotiation time. Leafs add big time

Marner is a much better hockey player than Boeser.
regular season that is arguable i guess when marner piles up meaningless points.

but boeser has a massively superior playoff record.

marner is 1-8 in playoff series played, 24-33 in 57 playoff games played with 49 points

so marner has a .111 playoff series winning percentage, a .421 game winning percentage, and 2.42 pts/60.

boeser is 3-2 in playoff series, 17-12 in 29 playoff games played with 23 points

so that is a .600 series winning percentage, a .586 game winning percentage, and 2.44pts/60
