I could never understand why they make the definition of a high stick for a goal different than a high stick during play.

Should be the same standard. Players shoulders make the most sense. The crossbar is too far away to use as a measuring stick in most cases.

It's also a lot easier to see if the stick is below the shoulders than the crossbar since they are in the same plane of view.
100%, I did not even realize it was crossbar till I saw that replay and then it hit me. LOL.

I think Domi is being utilized wrong so far, he’s a far better winger then he is centerman, and he’s a far better disruptor and distributor of the puck. Biggest problem and has been for 3+ years now, Toronto doesn’t have a 3rd line center.

I think with Matthews being hurt, it’s been eye opening that Marner plays better away from Matthews. Feels like they try to force everything to 34.

Nylander is probably a better centre than Domi.

He could play 3C but that wouldn't be the best use of him either. To be honest I don't think 3C is a pivotal position and sticking Domi there makes the most sense of any other option they have. But it's an indictment on Treliving he entered the season with the intention of running Nylander as centre and then changed his mind after training camp.

Especially since it's been done so many times before.

Way to stick with it, and get the job done after a ton of controversy. 3 goals called back in total, 2 for the Buds and 1 for the Caps. All of which should have counted IMO.

This was far from a perfect game, but you never complain about 2pts. At the end of the day, we've come away with 0pts in games where we've dominated for the entire 60 minutes, so I really don't feel guilty about coming away with 2pts in a game where we maybe played 15 minutes of quality hockey.

I will say, there is always seems to be commentary regarding the big boys earning their money in situations like this. By no means were they world beaters, but when it mattered the most they all stepped up. Especially Johnny Toronto IMO. Big dog assist on the McMann goal, massive faceoff win on the GTG, huge faceoff win in the defensive zone to end the game on his weak side, and then muscling out the GWG to call game.

It's fair to criticize these guys when they no show, but its also fair to give them their flowers when they show up in a big way. Johnny was great

Not sure that record is indicative of anything but good fortune, who is going to have a +50% PP over 3 or 4 games, I think they scored something like 1, 5 on 5 goal over that hot stretch but something like 7 or 8 PP goals. Without that red hot PP our recored would be sub .500.

3 weeks in a row with back to backs and and 4 total already and now they get quite a bit of rest the rest of the month. Only 5 games in like the next 17 days. I guess Matthews injury came at a good time because it gives him plenty of time to get fully healthy too without missing too many games.

I think they said we have 19 back to backs this year? Just shy of 50% of our games are B2B

So this Tavares guy is a decent player eh ?

Tell me more... sounds interesting...

Great comeback win by the Leafs.

However that Knies goal should have counted and his stick did not look high at time of contact and Leafs won in regulation. IMO

According to the rules, all three calls (all four, including the non-penalty on Knies) were correct. The most marginal one was the Washington interference call.

Berube put Willy on the top line with Domi and Knies, and Mitch with JT and McMann, and they each had a goal and an assist.

I think the biggest difference I've seen is that in most games, whether ahead or behind, the team seems mentally stable. Leads are safer, and even when we give up a goal to make it close we don't collapse. Despite the sturm und drang on the GDT last night, we looked pretty good in the third, and got stronger as the game wore on.

I didn’t think there was no way their goalie wouldn’t come out to play that. What was he thinking lol. We got lucky here. Nearly robbed us of two points.

It was a wrong decision, except it was hard to tell Tavares wouldn't get their first until the last couple of seconds.

I think Thompson didn't know how fast Tavares skates, and wasn't sure the puck would go that deep until it was too late.

Always enjoyable to listen to the other broadcasters call.

Such a woe is us mindset here. Refs weren’t against the Leafs last night. What the hell were you watching? The chintzy goalie interference call should have been a good goal, but they called it back. They correctly called Knies where the guy ran into him and released him from the box. Again, what are you guys watching? Sure, 2 calls went against us but that happens for any team.

I enjoyed watching this team come back and get the 2 points. It was so close to being 0 points on this back-to-back. So that was nice.

Finally a comeback victory and some scoring. It wasn't a great game by any means but they found a way.

This team has a big time hole in the lower end of the lineup. They need to get them going.

Except, scoring was:

Little m, Tavares, McMann, Nylander

Assists were:
Little m, Tavares, Knies, Nylander, Holmberg, Rielly

So except for Holmberg Top 2 lines provided all the scoring.

.........

Thought Steeves looked okay, and was physically able to play against men.
Hakanpaa was okay, especially first game in 3/4 of a year.
Ovechkin didn't score ... a good thing.

...

Tavares earning his next contract.
Domlander the 2nd. line center.

Have to find a couple wingers for Matthews when he's back from the massage table.

So we scratched Robertson for Steeves to achieve what exactly?
Steeves is such a limited player and has no standout skill in the NHL to be playing ahead of someone like Robertson.

Meh I thought it was a wash. Not like Robertson was doing a whole lot on that line so I'm ok with him sitting one.

Felt pretty much the same. Was a little surprised when I saw the title of the thread.

I thought Steeves played pretty well, had a few good chances.

On the flip side, a lot of bad fortune with how poor our 5v5 scoring has been. This is a similar forward group to the one last year which led the league in 5v5 scoring. Even with the coaching change and some injuries, little to no 5v5 scoring is an anomaly

If the league wants more offense, then all 3 reviews should've been good goals

-Woll wasn't stopping the puck whether he got love tapped or not
-Lorentz had a natural reaction to the puck hitting his knee. The whole "propelling" rule is really dumb
-Knies' stick was 50/50 at best. Call it a goal
