They play this game as a job they are gonna take as much as they can get especially with the cap going up. Players rarely take huge discounts like 2-3 million a season. Mathews could get at least 11 and taking 9 would be him forfeiting 16 million you really think he will do that same with Marner he will get at least 8.5 if he keeps scoring probably closer to to 10 million imo. They might take 500k discounts or so but I almost garentee they will not take those kinds of deals. If they gave Nylander almost 7 why would Marner and Mathews feel inclined to take a discount when they are both much better players than Nylander at this point.

Woof. That's quite the "hometown discount" for a city theyve been in for 2 years. If you're extremely lucky it will be 11 for Matthew's and 8 for Marner. Those are both discounts.

Is this a joke or what? The Leafs are going to have trouble as it is affording both Matthews and Marner, And you honestly believe you can afford a $8 million Trouba on top. Tell me who're going to move out to afford it? And i got news for you. No way Trouba would sign it.

Marner has been in Toronto (just north) for over 20 years? not sure where you got that info.

CApfriendly has the leafs at $56.3 million committed next year which includes Horton so taking him out puts them at $51 million for 7 forwards which includes gauthier and Marleau. 4D which includes Holl. And 1 goalie.

That’s 12 players accounted for of a 23 man roster. Squeezing 11 players for $32 million in cap space.

Don’t see how they can do what the OP is proposing to eat up like $30 million for Trouba, marner and Mathews. Would leave $2-3 million to sign 8 players.
