Seems every year Matthews starts the season an absolute beast, as do the leafs.

But then after a few weeks he gets some lingering nagging injury, and becomes "good", not "great". Then the team becomes relatively average.

Matthews lingering injury came later than usual this year.

Because he, at one point, was elite. And he hasn't been for 2 seasons now. It's obvious by now he is not the answer in net for us.

Yep. People will point to his season-to-season save percentage but that's not where he's inconsistent. He's inconsistent game to game (or even period to period), where he will play great one minute and then completely lose a game for you the next with the softies. He doesn't win many games for the team anymore but often loses them.

That said, I don't even blame him tonight on him. But I likely wont miss him next season.

I feel I am the only one in this camp... (I missed the first 13 minutes of the third). But we played an ok game overall I think? Couple blemishes here and there, but much better than last season effort in these kind of games.

Edit: Nvm. Full diaper.

Losing back to back to Vancouver is going to hurt.

Winnipeg is going to be hungry so it doesn't get easier.

We need to swap some bodies next game and get more guys some rest.

Marner keeps entering the zone from the center position and forcing plays and taking the shot himself. A real lack of puck movement there and he really shouldn’t be the trigger man.
