It's best to just keep these things to yourself, particularly your religious beliefs (or lack thereof) and personal politics.

I made the mistake twice, actually.

One started when I refused to eat meat at a family gathering, since you know, I am a vegetarian. I cited this reason multiple times. It turned political when I was asked "why" and stated that I don't view animals as any different than human-beings, and so would not like to participate or be a part of their commercial slaughter.

The second started when we were talking about Hurricane Katrina, and my aunt said something like, "God will take care of them". And then it made me think of the Problem of Evil: If God is omnipotent, beneficent, and omni-present, then why does evil and suffering occurring and on such a frequent basis? I basically stated this...and it did not turn out so well.

It's not worth it to argue your personal philosophies amongst others, particularly when it can harm relationships and deeply offend the other person. Being "right" isn't worth it.

Arguing about it is usually a waste of time, but there is nothing wrong with discussing your views with open-minded people.

Yeah I try to never bring politics or religion up in conversation unless I'm specifically asked about them, even then I still try to not go deeply into it.

That's what it comes down to. And like you said- people hold onto their philosophies so deeply that it only leads to intense arguments, pretty much every time. It's near impossible to have a civil conversation about it.

Reading your guys stories about parents makes me realize how lucky I am. We did go to church every sunday for a while, but me and brother were never afraid to voice our displeasure of it (cause it was boring of course). We got busy and we just stopped going. Last time I went was probably 5 years ago now. Last non-holiday service I went to was probably 10 years ago now. They also don't nag me as much as they seem to get with you guys. Mind you I have never been a bad kid really and needed their nagging. I've just always been able to see things from their point of view I guess so I don't do anything that makes them hate me

Yeah I was never a bad kid either. I never smoked, drank, went out late to parties, got in trouble etc. I just seemed to get nagged on by my mom from the simplest things.

Stupid question, I don't have a bank account but I want to open one asap (like tomorrow)

I have $0 to my name right, could I just go to like CIBC tomorrow to open up an account or is there any fees and stuff that I would have to pay?

You are a student still and I think all banks have student accounts that require no minimum balance and no fees. TD does anyways.

You're just a good kid.

Just wait until your mom meets here future daughter in law. :sarcasm:

Just kidding.

Hey maybe you are lucky and got parents that aren't insane.

Pity the rest of us. :baghead:

Didn't say my parents weren't weird, they are pretty odd, they just leave me alone

So I could walk in with no money and my pieces of ID and walk out with a bank account?

That I don't know. Check their website?

Don't see anything about signing up
