Except people think theyre country because they like the outdoors and camp/fish twice a year. I'm srs. My ex claimed she was a country girl but in the 10 months of dating her she didn't do anything country at all. We went to go spend at night at her camp but when we got there she was too afraid and we ended up leaving.

Those people are called hipsters... :sarcasm:

I miss baseball so much man. I started pitching young, and because im a sidearm lefty with just no proper throwing technique, my arm was toast by the time i was 18. Managed to pitch a lot in high school but i wish i could keep doing it. Now i just play third base

our team went 1-2 today. Didn't make the tourny playoffs. all good though, was a nice day for a Charity Tourny.

Ended up batting 10-14 with a homer (which isn't really a homer since the fields don't have home run fences, I was just able to run the bases)

Everybody wins!!!

I don't get the concept of putting kids in competitive sport to only give every kid a medal at the end of the year. What does it teach our kids, that no matter what effort you put into a competition you will get rewarded? Is that the purpose of competitive sport, to not hurt a kids feelings or is competitive sport about challenging yourself to be a better you?

I put this silly practice of everyone wins in the same category of no kid fails any grade till after Grade 8, yep thats right folks in our school district no matter what poor effort, what final mark a kid receives or what level of skill a kid has he/she will get pushed through school until grade 8, after grade 8 the school has to ask for the parents permission to fail the kid. I have a close friend who is a teacher she told me in a class (middle school) of 24 kids, 5 have zero reading ability and at least 10 read at a level considerably below what is considered appropriated for her grade level. Is the not failing a kid system working?

Some of my fondest childhood memories was about the effort put into learning how to play a sport properly and one year we actually won a regional baseball championship, because of this experience at a very young age I was able to understand the relationship between preparation/effort and reward, we were not handed the medal just because we were there, the competitive nature taught me some valuable life lessons at an early age.

Is the "don't hurt any kids feelings" culture actually doing more harm than good? I think it hurts our kids more than help our kids.

So where does Leaf nation stand on the recent and annoying trend where every kid in minor sports gets a medal regardless of their effort and skill? Is there a benefit?

This sort of behavior instills a belief in children's minds that losing is OK.

These kids will probably grow up to become Leafs fans, where losing and failure year after year is celebrated....

This generation is becoming "soft". It's all about protecting kids of what the real world actually is for as long as possible

I agree actually, kids are getting medals regardless nowadays like just for participating and it is stupid. You play to win and when I was growing up if I didn't win I would put all my effort into winning next year and it just feels a lot better when you actually do win.

Also the teachers have to ask your parent if they can fail you? wtf is that? I never failed anything but had some in my classes that did. You shouldn't be able to advance if you don't know the ****ing material.

How young is young though? And at what level? Participation trophies are fine if you're talking about house league level of competition where, outside the scoreline, the primary goal is to have fun (as much as you wouldn't want to believe). Once you start playing at any level of competition where winning and development are the primary focus of playing, trophies given for participation are all but gone. And even if they are there anyone who hates to lose, which would be the vast majority of players, would accept the trophy and never look upon it again with pride.

They can fail you on your tests and exams but cannot fail you for the grade. In theory you could fail every math test and then in the following year be takign a Math class at one level higher.

Yup there's a saying, hate to lose more than you love to win. I can say I live by that.

From 5 to 14 years old.

Some kids parents cant afford to put them on Rep teams, house league might be all they have.

I question participation medals, its basically a reward for just showing up. These participation medals really mean nothing to a kid.. I bet the vast majority are worn for a few days and then they are put at the bottom of a junk drawer. My championship medal was up on my wall for everyone to see ..:)

I just find that ridiculous. How could you learn more advanced concepts of a certain subject when you cannot even grasp the basics.
