I stay with my opinion - he is jumping into the top league DOUBLING his game output

He could even potentially benefit from a marlie trip jist for some rest

Yes he's dealing with playing more games, against better players who are stronger than he's used too.

The problem is, at no point in this season has he even been on a heater offensively where he was consistently putting up points.

This season he's only had points in back to back games once.

No doubt. Our beloved Leafs will be a long time digging out from the mess that we see right now.

This is not even comparable considering who the Bruins have lost since. Bergeron, krug and Rask

Yes we lost some players but not even close to those players in their positions

Yet somehow they are still better than us. How ?

T.O.
This core has traditionally had strong records on home ice in the regular season. Granted, we've had injuries on the blueline and inconsistent goaltending, but something still seems off this season.

If we make the playoffs, we might stand a better chance without home ice advantage.

Another young player Keefe doesnt know what to do with

Sandin
Dermott
Lilijgren
Knies so far
Robertson

He hasnt been able to develop a single top 4D or top 6 winger yet from that crop.

Keefe needs to find ways to utilize the three left here to their strenghrs and get surplus value from them while they are dirt cheap

Im scared he will screw up Cowan and minten (to lesser extent as I see a 3C ceiling for Minten) when they become full time leafs

Seems like the vast majority of non superstars on this Leaf revolving door roster do not thrive under Keefe. Other than Bunting and Hyman that one year just think of guys who had depressed numbers here.

If this team wants to be serious the next 34 games things need to change. PP1 unless your burying your opponent in the Ozone get off the ice at a 1:10. PK 25-30 seconds and off or when ever the puck gets fired out. Find a defensive structure somewhere. Commit to the little things and forget about the points.

According to Roy most of this team are Ducks not Eagles and the leader isn’t even a duck it’s probably a flamingo.

I think it's pretty obvious you hang on to the big 3 and let Tavares' come off the books. The cap is going up and we can afford to pay the big 3.

JT never lived up to his contract and I don't even want him back on a discount. The captain is supposed to be the heart and soul of the team and he has neither of those. He's a robot.
Absolutely I agree that we have to let Tavares walk. But I still don't see how we can win the whole thing with 3 11mil+ forwards.

Doesn't seem like any other team has any interest in paying their players that amount of money. It just means we are at a disadvantage from the get go.

Now that 88 has been inked to that albatross of a contract you have no choice, you have to keep 34 and 88. JT needs to sign the friendliest deal in NHL history and Marner is the odd man out, unless he too wants to play for peanuts which isn’t realistic……….

Roger that…….
Do the Leafs even re-sign JT in 1.5 yrs?

I appreciate Sammy, especially for finally getting us a win in a playoff series last season. There's no way he's back though. He reminded me of Reimer last night, the puck hits him, he flops like a fish and had no idea where the rebound went. I hope he recovers and plays well, I just think he's still a long way from getting there.

Depends on how much further his game has regressed and of course the money. JT’s always been a quality person and a damn good player, would he be interested in staying in a drastically reduced role or retire?

Knies is on something like a 30pt pace playing alot of his season with supremely talented players.

Noone is saying he sucks but that offensive production is just not good enough and most would have expected more at the start of the year if they knew how much time he would get playing on the top lines.
People need to stop banging Minten, Cowan, Niemela, Hildeby and Grebyonkin into the lineup and expecting anything from them.

And they may already have the goalie in Woll.

Right now they have bigger needs and they'll give Marner another chance at playoff run. If he fails again, then it probably would be best for them to part ways.
I like what I have seen by Woll, however his ankle problems are gonna be a problem. Asked what he worked on in the off season Woll says "making my ankles stronger"....then hurts his ankle bad on a nothing play. Its not the first time he has had issues and my guess is it wont be the last...unfortunately.

I think they do have it in Woll. I don't think goaltending will be a go-forward issue for this team. It will just be a matter of adding to the defense.
How anyone could count on Woll with any confidence is beyond me....How many games has he played in the nhl? How many injuries has he had? How many ankle injuries? Im just sayin....I like Woll but to count on him to be our main guy seems like a pretty big ask imo.

You have meeting and tell him that it’s not working and they’d like to move him. Mutually they could agree on a few places they’d like to explore.

Of course, if he refused there‘s not much they can do, but it would be a very difficult time in Toronto next year.
More likely they give marner a new bentley for even broaching the subject and then when he refuses they will pony up and make him the highest paid winger in the nhl, full nmc, heavily front loaded. Leafs negotiations 101.

If both ankle injuries have been to the same ankle, then no question it is a concern. But if he can come back this season and stay healthy through the playoffs, I think you have to take the position that he is the number one goalie next season. There isn't cap space to add a significant goalie salary.

You can't just develop a player into a top 4D, or top 6 winger, if they aren't capable of being that.

In fairness, Sandin's foot speed was the main issue. Dermott just never took another step forward.

Also, he was the coach responsibly for Hyman and Bunting becoming who they did, so to suggest he hasn't developed a top six winger, is false. He turned Justin Holl into a borderline top 4D, elite PK player.

Plus guys he coached with the Marlies, and some with the Leafs.... Brown, Nylander, Kapanen, Johnsson, Hyman, Marchment, Moore, Grundstrom, Engvall, Lilly, Sandin, Holl...

If Woll can stay healthy then yes I could see him taking a run at being our regular #1 and that would be great. He has not played a lot of games at any level the last few years and is 25. Injuries are a major concern so....I was replying mainly to those who have him as our starter/saviour for the next few years. I wouldnt count on it.

Babcock was responsible for Hyman. Ppl wanted hyman off the team after 2017 or playing 4th line

Keefe did get Bunting to where he is now

Kap/Brown/AJ had better years with Babcock or off the leafs then with leafs while Keefe coached (Brown wasnt here for keefe)

He coached well on the marlies and got guys going but in the NHL he hasnt developed many guys into players we expected as they came out of the AHL

You guys are obsessed with the first place thing. Turns out, barring the unexpected the rest of the season, I was wrong. I guess that never happens here?

As for Domi and Bertuzzi, I don't think any team would give a first round pick for Domi. I suspect they could get one for Bertuzzi because there are teams out there that would look past his numbers this season, but I think it's all irrelevant because I just don't see Treliving doin
Maybe its the constant shilling of the leafs every day/game that people are responding to? If someone is gonna keep ramming their leafs are awesome and everyone else is lesser than narrative down peoples throats then I would think someone would expect some sort of response when certain predictions/statements turnout to be incorrect. imo

I believe I heard Sammy say it was like playing soccer. He's our best hope with Woll having no idea when he is returning.
