Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose to Canucks 3-0

I think its going to get bad real quick. Soon we'll be talking about the free fall. Just not good enough with the teams coming up. MM and Tavares will have to be casualties for a new look next season. They'll not resign them. Just hope Berube is the right guy to bring in his guys.

Hildeby was disappointing.

Matthews, Marner, and Nylander were all disappointing. The power play and coaching were disappointing. The whole damn team was disappointing.

I couldn't imagine paying good money to attend tonight's game only to witness such a disappointment.

I watch the games on mute so don't know if anyone was booing. If they weren't they most certainly should have been. I can understand a loss but a complete no show on home ice to a bubble team is never acceptable.

Nobody is refunding the fans for this pathetic performance.

Not even an apology. In fact just the opposite we were told by the team leaders how great they played. I've never understood how people can pay so much money to watch their favourite hockey team get crushed and simply accept it.

To call it disappointing is an understatement.

can you imagine all the first-time-fans in that crowd

all the parents that took their kids to their first Leaf game... and the team decides to pull a no-show like they did tonight

this performance (or lack of) is exactly why I'm reluctant to throw down hundreds of dollars to take my kids to their first Leaf game

This team just came off winning 5 in a row and are first in their division. Yes, they will likely lose games here and there, maybe even two in a row again (imagine the horror). But I think people can step back from the ledge. They aren't going to go into a free fall. Are all 11 Vegas fans losing their minds because they just got shutout by the Islanders? Losses happen.

Is it the players at that point. I think we’ve split Matthews Marner nylander tavares to a 2-2 split? I don’t know what the answer is anymore.
Its the wrong mix period
They need less 13 million dollar guys and maybe more hungry 6.5 million dudes

Rielly looks like he as regressed big time. That idiotic pass on the PP and getting walked like a pylon by EP highlighted his season to date.

Provides next to no offense and is a tire fire defensively.
I was noticing the same .I think he needs a change of scenery

Rielly treats it like a country club. He is clearly just checking in and out not really caring. Does not play like a guy that cares at all.

I think that you're probably right. For years now they have not been able to identify good players, though. And you guys keep justifying paying our top guys all this money anyway. Like what will happen if the Leafs shake up the core for once, huh? The world is not gonna end, and I think the Leafs will be a better team for it.

It might end up working out, who knows? We don’t have a Chrystal ball. As long as they draft good players we shouldn’t be opposed to moving off the fire. I’m not anti shaking up the core, just have good replacements if you choose to.

I had to watch the recording. I made it as far as the end of the 3rd powerplay. Angrily stopped and deleted the recording. Checked the score and felt better for not subjecting myself to whatever-the-f*** that was supposed to be.

I mean, it was 100% predictable.

It's interesting so far this season. It feels like the peak is higher under Berube, yet the low is lower under Berube as well. Can't say I expected that.

When they play like they did over the past two games, there isn't a team in the league they'd beat consistently.

I am more disgusted than disappointed at this stage.
I agree about Berube. I thought these kind of efforts would be less under his watch. If not for goaltending and Tanev, they’d be exposed for not having changed at all when considering consistent effort level.

I doubt that this happens. They’ll be getting Stolarz back and they will trade for offense. I doubt they fall out of a playoff spot.

It was terrible to hear from my old friends out on the west coast. They almost only contact me when the Canucks beat the Leafs. They are dirty bastards indeed, lol

Overall I thought it was a very poor effort from everyone. January blahs I guess.

I don't think fans have run to the edge. I think many, for a number of years have been on the edge, and this game , then Mitchys mouth justified our worst fears. We are right. And that is hard to swallow even if you have been thinking it for a long time.

IDK. That Marner quote is seriously making me re-evaluate spending my time watching this team. I always felt like us fans cared more than the team, but that quote pissed me the hell off.

Whatever identity Berube has tried to instill into this team, over the last month or so it has slowly come undone and the same old Leafs have come back. Players running the show, getting to pick their linemates, getting to pick when they feel like playing, and not being held accountable through ice time or any other means that we can see.

From November through Jan the team played with so much physicality, grit, structure, and had solid goaltending they looked legit. Since right before the xmas break when Berube allowed the excuse of them being tired to come out in the media they've given half efforts every game.

Matthews no where close to a 13M player
Nylander MIA
Rielly MIA

Every single fan saw game 7 Leafs last night and they were all ok with it.

It is what it is. Berube style is a hard fit here. It’s a hard game to watch. Dump and chase isn’t our forte. Our star players hate it. Then you filled the bottom six and most of your D with hardly no offensive ability.

We will win games as we have. Always close games.
That’s what fans wanted …this type of play that resembles playoff hockey.

The proof will be in the playoffs. Fail again and then what?

But then again we are 2nd in the conference. We have our faults and I’m not sure Tre has the pieces to fix that. Fans will want trades made at trade deadline for vets etc that never works and then we spend the offseason complaining we have no assets because we traded them away.

Rinse and repeat :)

Enjoy the ride :)

THUD

A depth defender and/or forward isn't going to change this team.
It’s scary thinking about giving up a lot at the TDL.
They’re not getting a number 1 D and will take their chances with Tanev and McCabe as the work horses. That’s much better than they’ve ever had, but I’m not convinced it’s good enough.
We don’t know if the top end talent has the skill or determination to win.
The bottom end is mediocre.

Goaltending looks good.
I have confidence in the middle guys, McMann, Knies, Patches, Domi
