Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose to Canucks 3-0

The issue is he said the exact opposite of what a leader should say. Literally 180 degrees opposite.
I wasn't being serious but yes he could have thrown the whole team under the bus if he chose to.

The difference between Marner’s comments (“I think we’re playing well, I really do!”) compared to Tanev’s (“they outworked us, out competed us, that’s why they won”) are incredibly telling. Marner honestly suffering from a severe case of Joe Thorntonitis. Do the players not talk to each other after the game? How can there be such a massive disconnect?
Berube called out lack of pace and energy in post game and saw that in morning skate. Screaming in practice. Man, when this core doesnt want to play hard there's nothing to stop it. Imagine the room after the game. They all heard it I am sure. Marner defiant I guess.

Just when he started winning the fan base again, Mitch says some dumb shit as usual. This guy needs a supervisor at all times when talking to the media, holy crap.

This makes no sense.
Incompetence <> Indifference , you're confusing the two.
Just go buy more merchandise, and a couple of more seats!

It's fans like you that keeps MLSE doing the same things over and over.

The Shanahan experiment has been a complete failure. The team under him has NOT brought us to even a Stanley Cup appearance never mind a championship. IMHO, one Stanley Cup round win in eight years is abysmal, yet the players are paid like Stanley Cup champions.

At 69 years old, I don't have a lot of time to see our Leafs win another Stanley Cup. I felt more optimistic during the Ballard years than I do now!

He's always been his own worst enemy.

If they could just do something else that guarantees wins why wouldn't they?
Like you say, people will still by tickets and merchandise.

I don't much care that he said something dumb, just like I don't much care that he's having a great season overall. I'll judge him the same way as everyone else, mostly based on his playoff performance. Based on history, I'm not optimistic regardless of how well he plays in November/December as it hasn't carried over past game 86.

To put it simpler, he hadn't even begun to win me over, his only chance to do that is in the playoffs.

I know how you feel. At least during the Ballard years I was young, and I knew the torture would end at at some point because nobody lives forever. Not that young anymore and watching the most talented group of players I've ever see wear the Maple Leaf shit the bed in the playoffs year after year after year just breaks my heart.

The only good thing is that the older I get, the more I realize how unimportant hockey is in the grand scheme of things but still, I've been a fan of this team as long as I remember so it's still really sad.

It seems Tanev agreed the effort was there. :help:

Veteran defenceman Chris Tanev is able to cut through the rhetoric, and did so again on Saturday.

“Not good enough,” Tanev said. “They outworked us, outcompeted us. That’s why they won.

“We’re not worried about them. We need to play our game better. That’s why we lost.

“It comes down to us being prepared to play and knowing we what we need to do as a team. When I say outworked, I don’t mean the effort’s not there, but we’re not connected as five, we’re not helping support each other and that’s where they took advantage of us and scored some goals.”

That kind of attitude needs to seep into all corners of the Leafs dressing room.
Pretty similar to Marners full quote.

“The last couple of games (including a 6-3 loss in Carolina on Thursday), we’ve been giving up plays to teams that aren’t missing on them. I thought we were good, five-man tight in our zone, thought we went through the neutral zone as a unit. “When we didn’t do that, that’s when breakdowns happened and they had a lot of offence off it. That’s something we talked about, that we need to be better at. We’ll look at it going forward and fix it.”

All they care about is making playoffs every year and fill up the seats. A full rebuild is hard that's why none of them on the board want one.

Knowing Rogers even if Shanahan is gone, the replacement will do exactly the same thing year after year. This franchise is doomed.

He said, to an echo chamber.
This is not an echo chamber as it has posters that defend Marner and the core against all evidence and visuals. It is a balanced discussion chamber.
However I’m sure even you ( no insult intended) must admit that Marner presser last night was totally delusional

The very definition of outworked is that the other team worked harder. Maybe if he said outperformed your view would be accurate but he said outworked and then quickly back tracked so he didn’t offend anyone on the team.
So try better next time

Yeah sure thing, except that's not the full quote. You cut out the part where Marner said he thought they played well, did Tanev say that?

But look at it from another viewpoint.

How often do you hear "cliche, coached speak, canned response" when being interviewed.

The Little m, says what he thinks. He is honest with his perception of reality.

That is refreshing if nothing else.

Taney said out worked…..there can only be one definition of outworked and that is the other guys worked harder

Games like last night's are nice reminders to myself of, "Thank goodness I wasn't the one spending good money to go watch that crap."
I don't go to regular seasons games anymore partly due to this (along with how stupidly expensive they are)

The chances of spending your hard earned money on a game where the Leafs don't care is way too high. Would rather save a bit more and get a playoff game, preferably earlier in the series as that's when the Leafs are their best

Even worse, gave my tickets to my daughter so I could stay home and watch my Steelers lose at the same time. :help:
I've been on a 4 hour emergency call with a client this morning which is still on going, pretty shitty weekend all around.

The funny thing is the Domi line actually did put in a decent effort (Robertson was buzzing around even if none of his shots were very dangerous), at least relative to the Canucks who mostly didn't look great either. Rielly had a better game than usual and joined the rush a few times, hitting a crossbar once. Tavares had a couple of good chances though not a good game overall. It's MNM who generated nothing and didn't even look interested.

That was the Canucks Stanley Cup.

Who cares, they beat the 4th string Goalie

He doesn’t need to go full Tebow after he lost to a Houston Nutt coached Ole Miss, but he should have said they didn’t play well and he was part of the problem and they’ll be better.

MLSE looks at the Edmonton Oilers on one hand, their superstar core, the team success and the $280 million revenue in their run to the finals, and a the Ottawa Senators with their rebuilt high pick young core, never making the playoffs... and like to believe they are superficially closer to the former.

The stability we have with Matthews and Marner in the regular season can be stale and end up in a loser place in the spring... but for management it's still smooth sailing for most of the year before you hit the iceberg. And a breakthrough can still happen.

I live in Vancouver and there was no buzz around this game. Canuck fans have their own issues right now. Sure they’re happy they beat us but they are panicking with there team .
