Did he really say this?
It’s comments like this where they make you see the real disconnection between Marner and the team. He thinks poor efforts are acceptable.

What did Matthews and Nylander have to say?
I can’t believe he said that. I was at the game tonight with my son and we couldn’t believe the lack of intensity from the Leafs. The passes were off, the skating was slow. I don’t remember a single grade A chance from them all night. Felt bad for my son who rarely gets to see them play live. Vancouver didn’t even look all that good either. I just would have liked to see a single ounce of emotion. It’s comments like this where they make you see the real disconnection between Marner and the team. He thinks poor efforts are acceptable.
I think there is a couple of million more they would have spent on the bottom 6 if they had it but that gets you maybe one more useful guy than what they have. $41 M on four guys is a real thing but its more a general tax on the choices they can make and choices like Kampf suggest they might waste any spare change they had.Having more money doesn’t mean you get a better bottom six. It means you just overpay shittier players. Look at the cap hits of the best teams in the leagues bottom six. No different than the leafs. The difference? Those players play a certain way that’s conducive to winning and sustained success. The drive the net all the damn time. Toronto’s pro scouting staff have done a terrible job of identifying good players. We are paying Max Domi what? 3.5 or 4 mill, instead of getting a Nick Paul type for the same amount of money.

Been like this for years too
Management (two sets of management, at that) has shown zero willingness to move off these four guys. I'm hard-pressed to believe they ever will. I will be shocked if Marner and Tavares aren't resigned before the season ends, and I'm on record saying over and over again that I don't want the leafs to resign Tavares.I think that you're probably right. For years now they have not been able to identify good players, though. And you guys keep justifying paying our top guys all this money anyway. Like what will happen if the Leafs shake up the core for once, huh? The world is not gonna end, and I think the Leafs will be a better team for it.

He has to be joking. If not he is totally delusional
They should ask the loser what he thought of their PP
I had to watch the recording. I made it as far as the end of the 3rd powerplay. Angrily stopped and deleted the recording. Checked the score and felt better for not subjecting myself to whatever-the-f*** that was supposed to be.Glad I didn’t watch.
All true. Also makes me feel the whole taking responsibility thing doesn't exist with this group. It's always someone elses fault, or, we did great and are so close, just need a bounce or two.Living in an echo chamber is one of the worst things one can do whether real life or hockey
marner has been a prime candidate based on his comments in the media of living in an echo chamber
Most on here, and I emphasise most, are usually not phased by a loss. They are however bothered by a complete lack of effort, often even in a win... and then for MM double down and come out and say you thought the team played great is just the icing. Preparing us for the playoffs early I guess. Now that ladies and gentlemen was a dog **** effort
Unfortunately this is what happens after you've won a bunch of games you probably shouldn't have, eventually the goaltending can't continue going God mode and you start losing games you were winning 2 weeks ago
Honestly the lines need a shake up and the team needs a good kick up the ass
Losing happens but I'd like to see some effort and emotion put in at least

It feels like the team decided to take the night off after Hildeby let in that junk first goal 30 seconds in. I get it too, I checked out watching but it feels like a low character response with your 3rd string rookie in net to just sleepwalk through it.
Yeah, was a bad bounce if anything. It wasn't like it was a tip by a guy who was left open, or the goalie missing an easy shot. How was that first goal junk? It went off Boeser's shin in the slot.
I mean, it is low character... it's been 8 years of low character. We are the fools thinking it could be anything different... well us and Shanny of course. It feels like the team decided to take the night off after Hildeby let in that junk first goal 30 seconds in. Unfortunate for sure, but should have been something the team could have some back from.

If Tre is serious, he makes a blockbuster and moves one of the core.
Yea, it's always been one of the most frustrating things about them. The gap between their best and worst is so massive...What frustrates me about Captain Matthews and Mitch Marner is they just have such a low floor game. Like when it doesn’t go, it’s exceptionally bad.
