The NHL is a young man's game where speed kills and Muzzin, Holl, Gio and Sandin will be tested all year to defend against it.

Gio took an early interference penalty knowing the Habs skater was going to fly by him if he didn't and Muzzin and Holl will be making bad plays under pressure because opposition players will be in on them quickly.

The number off odd man rushes the Leafs surrendered today was eye opening. Cauflield could have had a hattrick on them alone today.

Murray fixes his glove hand and he’s fine. If there’s any team with the resources to fix the one glaring weakness he has, it’s the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He’s not a bad goalie, he just gets exposed on one thing, and even then- without being fixed, he can get by.

Leafs see the problem, they will fix it. Murray will hover around .900 with that elite defense (when healthy) and scoring support.

Just a Senators fan sick and tired of people trashing Murray.

very well deserved loss tonight. We really didn't even deserve the single pt. Ugly performance by almost every skater. Terrible puck management in the offensive zone. You cannot turn the puck over at that level of frequency and activate the D as much as we did. Certainly not against a team like Montreal, who really only has that counter attack to work off of.

Props to MTL, and the young guns on the back end. They showed up, and proved that hard work beats skill when skill doesn't work hard. They forced costly turnovers from our forwards and our guys really didn't even make them work below the dots until the 3rd period. Not even close to good enough.

Need to be way way way better than this performance. I thought Murr was very good, I am really not worried at all from what I have seen from him so far in preseason and today. Not much he can do on any of those goals TBH. Was probably our only bright spot on the roster today. He and Malgin.

Disappointing loss to start the year, but it's not the end of the world. we will be just fine. Just gotta clean up our play in the neutral zone and on entry.

On to the next!

He needs to be a lot better than .900 behind our defense, and I think he will be.

It’s one game I’m not going to overreact but Holl with brain farts again. That’s always been my issue with him. I’m sure his advanced stats look good today.

I hope this is sarcasm. Elite defense?

it's just the first game but f*** me this team looks slow

-didn't notice the insane depth i kept hearing about all pre season , our bottom 6 looked like crap
-Murray is still the same poor goalie he's been the 4 out of the last 5 seasons
-Muzzin's legs are shot
-Holl can't play in the top 4 and there's no need for him on the bottom pair
-Sandin still looks the same which isn't a good thing
-Gio's smart but too slow
-no idea what AM was doing tonight
-Willie and JT had their moments but JT starting to blow the zone instead of taking the man on the turnover cost us the game winning goal

just a poor game overall , need to show up tomorrow

66% of our current blue line :help:

Team continues to get slower and slower under Dubas. No wonder Kerfoot is probably next man out before Holl.

Agreed, Sandin needs to work on his skating, but I think he'll get up to speed. He hasn't seen many games since earlier this year and missing training camp also didn't help
On a game, but not Leaf related, note since when has Carey Price thought he was a cowboy? Dafuq was with that hat??
He and his family are literally farmers and ranchers. Calm down.

I'm going to go ahead and worry about our goalies letting 4 goals in every game.
Well yeah you need Vasi or Shesterkin if you want elite numbers with that backend

Mind you today is an exaggeration of flaws, they're better than what we saw tonight, but there will be more occurrences where Murray is left to fend for himself

With the leafs at the cap max does that mean they can’t call up or make any line up changes right now?

More importantly, you could say the exact same thing about Mitch and Austin tonight, who make near infinetely more than the trio you named and play about triple the minutes.

Of course one night doesn't make a week, let alone a season, but my point still stands.

What's your point?
