Quick question.

I was at the game last night - wildest game I've ever been to in my LIFE - it was a madhouse.

But just before McCabe's goal there was a faceoff in the Jackets' end, and at the time I couldn't figure out why

Couldn't have been icing on a PK....unless there's some icing loophole in those situations?

I'm guessing it was mentioned during the broadcast but in the arena obviously there was no indication or reason given.

This is the Auston we need all the time.
Everyone knows this version of Mathews exists, but for whatever reason it doesn’t shows up nearly enough. He could be one of the all time greats, but is happy being just really good……..

Last minute was horrible. Domi should have shifted but Nylander also tried to skate through three players with his two teammates open.

On the last goal, I am wondering if they are playting man or zone. Should Domi have released the man with the puck or should have Nylander covered the guy without the puck.

Not sure of their 3 v 3 D strategy, zone or man.

We need Woll back so bad, Samsanov is the weakest point on D. Woll is so good on breakaways, and the shots that went in, I feel Woll would have handled.

Samsanov has cost us at least 2 games if not more.
2 games is an understatement. It's closer to 6-7 games minimum.

I think it was an offside.

Maybe that's part of the problem, they coast most nights against mediocre teams and win anyway. Then they get to the playoffs, and they don't know how to raise their level of play.

You gotta try really hard to see going down 5-0 against one of the worst teams in the league as a sign of growth. For me, a sign of growth would be shutting down teams like this the way we shut down Nashville on a regular basis, I can't see last night as anything other than a shit show.

Insane comebacks like might be fun, this isn't how you go deep in the playoffs though, it's how you get bounced in the first round. You'd think these guys would learn that after all there years, but no.
Does that also mean the Rangers and Bos have no chance to go deep in the playoffs? They also gave up 5 against the terrible Blue Jackets.

Columbus is actually pretty good every game through 2 periods. Pretty much every game. Then horrible in the third.

Period 1 +10
Period 2 + 5
Period 3 -54

What the guys have done is bought Brad time. He was under pressure but with Woll injured, SAMsonov becomes the excuse. This team is a strange regular season team that wins somehow but you cant play like this come playoffs.I don't think adding say a Tanev fixes this teams issues. We have a number 3 C who can't score, a team that wants to outscore everyone and a goalie who has a bad playoff record. I don't envy Brad's task.

Hard to be mad after a 3rd period 5 goal onslaught.
Timmins sucks at hockey.
Another point and even last night when the team gave up 5.
He can be better for sure but his miscues don't seem to cost the team.

Most of you will probably see the negatives, but there are so many positives to take from this game. This team can dominate a game when it needs to do so.
And the negative... they don't chose to dominate games often enough. If they dominate in the 1st and 2nd periods last night, they win the game easily.

If it takes their fans booing them off the ice to motivate them, then the booing should start during the warmup.

I don't recall using the words "no chance". If you're going to make stuff up, go debate with yourself.

I think it was an offside.

An offside entering the Leafs zone, bringing the draw all the way back to Columbus's end?

Strange one, but I suppose that still makes more sense than icing. :dunno:

Seems like conditioning a major issue, for what I believe is the youngest team in the league. Surprised they still had enough gas to eke out the win in OT, I thought for sure Toronto would finish them off quick at 3 on 3.

Matthews is the man in this one...wow

Sad to see Samsonov play so poorly, that 3rd goal was pathetic. Martin Jones may actually beat him out for the backup role if he's not careful

He was actually okay in the first also. The bad goals against came in the second. The ones in the first came off brain dead turnovers.

He was no worse than the skaters... we all know Sammy is not playing like he did last season, so this is no surprise. The fact the skaters put in 40 minutes like they did, when they clearly did not have the goddamn flu was worse imo.
Braindead turnovers by veterans Domi and Rielly. These turnovers are what you should expect from rookies, NOT seasoned vets.

JMHO.

I disagree - I feel helping prevent goals is one of those things defenseman should be good at. When I see a noticeable physical gap between him and his man who ends up scoring, it costs the team.

I'm pretty sure he made at least two very good saves on the PK in the third. If we are going to call out the bad, we can at least give credit for the good.
The good is what should be expected, the bad is just too frequent from Samsonov. He needs to be replaced by a more consistent PUCK STOPPER.
