There are some awesome Leafs posters here, @hockeynorth and @BeLeafing in particular seem like great guys. I know this isn't a popular opinion around here but I think you guys should ride out the course with Dubas. Playing the Lightning in the 1st round is tough matchup.

Hell, if Dubas was fired I'd replace Holland with him in a heartbeat.

It’s been 6 years

Last year we lost to an almost .500 team that was inferior in most ways

You are correct, Tampa won because their grinders played well.

But our top players don't do the cutesy plays for swag - they do them because they are effective. This is how our top players play. We live and die by that sword.

That's part of the problem I think -- not being direct enough in the playoffs. They need to get more shots on net instead of going for long skates around the net and passing to no one. And when score and time forced them to play more direct late in the third,, Tampa blocked tons of shots.

Tampa is an older team, and we didn't get outplayed this year. Keep in mind that they traded like 4-5 first rounders in a row; they don't have any reinforcements coming.

And health wise, this is the healthiest they've been in the playoffs in a while. When they lost to CBJ, Hedman was injured. The next year, Stamkos. Last year Kucherov came back but played through an injury.

What I'm saying is don't live in fear of the Lightning. The Lightning won 2 cups building around the same core that was dropped by CBJ.

We have looked better in the last 4 series (in general and relative to the other team), but obviously, same result.

Its too bad it was 7 games. Leafs should have been swept or tampa should have won in like 5 games or so. It would have been a lot better for the Leafs future.

We need a GM and coach who has seens the ups and down; peaks and valleys in the NHL to keep the even keel in the dressing room. Not get too high when things are going well and not to get too low when things are not going well.

one of many problems which did them in:

they were happy to "just get one out of tampa" in games 3 and 4.

they got game 3.

mission accomplished.

so now that they got their "one" out of tampa, it was okay to relax for game 4 (in which they of course got smoked)

loser mentality. screwed themselves.

this isn't the time to "stay the course", it's time to remove management and replace them. They tried, they failed, now it's time for something else. A seasoned coach for starters. I would also ditch also Dubas and Shanahan thing as well. It's old now. Like way past expiry date. They got us to maybe 80% of where we need to be, so terminate these guys and bring in more experienced guys to complete the last 20%.

There are good pieces on the ice, they just need a more experienced group up to to push this to the next level.

This has become joke status now for sure, 0-10 in clinching games but all is not lost yet. I don't see this team regressing next year, they'll be good again. They need some serious veteran leadership though. But not the veteran types that sign here at the end of their careers just to get another payday. They need some veteran guys with some time still left.

There's no way this team stays the way it is. They're right there, but they also have to take some risks to get this thing over the hump. It isn't working the way it is but with some intelligent changes they can upgrade properly.
