Post-Game Talk: Leafs Lose in Game 7. Again.

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Tampa
Washington

All struggled for a few years not blowing up their core before they finally tweaked it enough to win something

Respect the comment and get it but prob won’t happen and doesn’t need to

There wasn’t much different in the series and if the refs were consistant this series wouldn’t have made it to game 7

At least Tampa made the final in 2015, and ECF in 2018. This team? Not even that.

To lose game 7 at home again?

It means they were the better team all along. Regular season didn't mean anything Tampa was just on cruise control until the real games began. Tampa clamped down and allowed nothing.

Leafs lose in their own building. Again.

In the "If the Leafs lose in Game 7, will you stop being a fan?" from one year ago
I will. Till next season. Where we once again convince ourselves that we’re a good team.
Just playing the TML fan merry-go-round that the leafs string us onto every year.

Sad but that’s reality. Naive is what we are and the Leafs exploit that part of us hard.

Winnipeg Jets fan coming in peace.

You know I can count on one hand how many Leafs games I have watched in the past 5 years. Not that I hated them I just never quite found them quite compelling enough to watch.

I watched game 6 however and I watched tonight. I was very much looking forward to Game 7. I thought you guys would win. I thought you be faster and hungrier as I thought this version of the Lightening looks slower and more tired than their 2 championship teams.

Then tonight happened and it was not for a lack of effort. You can't say the Leafs were bad, per se.

But they were lacking. When the time came to elevate their game they couldn't do it. There was no bearing down or extra physical play, there was the one extra pass where a scoring chance went to die.

I thought I was watching the Senators from 20 years ago.

It's a tough call, but probably Nylander has to go and yes I would think seriously of trading Matthews because he screams like a guy who is going to walk on you and head to the States the first chance he gets.

I don't think you can keep this core intact after 6 straight first round flops.

Your in a tough spot, but a re tool could improve your team substantially.
That's fair but people are salty right now

time to blow it up...6 times in a row

Well, where to from here

Ideally they trade all of Matthews, Marner and Nylander to get a kings ransom and then tank hard. Under Dubas era it seems like the worst case scenario where.... leafs don't even win a round and both nylander and matthews walk as a UFA.

Don't tell me they won't. Tavares did so can all of Matthews, Marner and Nylander. With Tavares' 11 AAV not going anywhere this team aint gonna get any better unless

- matthews, marner and nylander become the best players on the planet willing the team to wins (not gonna happen; 6 years worth of sample we have)

OR

- Leafs luck out where their 3rd or 4th round picks turn out to be zetterbergs, datsyuks, point, etc.... (don't see anybody in the system with that kinda upside)

Dubas' cap structure is such a massive failure there is just no other way but to rebuild or luck out with draft picks

That 6 on 5 at the end kind of sums up the Leafs. They must have wasted about a minute just passing it around the perimeter, basically killing time off for the Bolts. It's probably also the main reason why they can't score on the powerplay. They really need to get some guys who can score in traffic and create something down there.

Vasilevski didn't have to deal with one tough circumstance.
No player was taken down while attacking the net and fell into Vaselevski...all series!
They need a power forward who will crash the net.
Nylander is the obvious odd man out, great player but not what the Leafs need.
So would people now consider evander Kane now?
Def too late as his play will warrant a huge contract again but there was a chance to get him on the cheap but no
Let’s not mess with our dressing room lol

I would trade Nylander

He's too damn soft in the playoffs. He does not compete at all. So many plays where he tried to avoid getting hit.

I agree. Both him and Mitch da bitch avoided contact numerous times.

Yup
2019 - really f***ing hurt…thought that was our chance to make a run to the finals. Thought about the game 6 way too much months after

2020 - wasn’t even hurt..just disgusted

2021 - felt pure discontent for a month or so then started moving on

2022 - don’t even feel much, just disappointed in myself for thinking they could even do it

This team showed they were flawed last year. Dubas gave it “one more year….” This year. They didn’t get it done.

I believe in Dubas to make the tough decisions here, but if he wants to run it back again, I’ll have lost faith in him too.

Buddy...Take a breather and inhale some empathy.

Game 6, Tampa needed a 5 on 3 to go to OT. They didn't score again in regulation. That call back goal on Tavares...Gimme a break. This club, this series, dealt with a lot of pressure from within the game that shouldn't have been there.

If the man is fighting back tears...Just pause a moment and think about all the circumstances.

Nothing has changed in the Matthews era? Our best regular season. Our greatest goalscorer.

This series WAS terribly officiated. Maybe he's near tears because the club was good enough to win and that they did enough to win it, but were forced to go beyond that, and against the defending two-time Cup champions on top of it.

Hell of a gauntlet to put any athlete through.
Empathy…don’t get me started

Matthews, along with the team couldn’t finish their job: which is to win a Stanley cup

Each year they fail miserably

Officiating was not the reason we lost

We scored 0 pp goals in game 7 again, on 4 attempts

Pressure?!? You know who felt pressure: Sidney Crosby, he came into the league and was expected to win, he did

Ovechkin felt insane pressure to win, but at least he won the first round multiple times

Kucherov had pressure for one year, then he shut everyone up

These guys aren’t mentally ready to win, and the pressure they’ve acquired is too much..

Deal them all if they can’t handle big time

Dude, I like you, but that is hyperbole to the max. You don't ever trade a 60 goal player, we are ALL angry right now, but Matthews is going nowhere, you will NEVER get that value back.

The hate this franchise can come up with will wound him, and I've always been a bit worried of him leaving, but he's as safe as a bet for next year as anyone in this organization.

Fail again, then you think trade, always ATLEAST ride it until the last year. Hope he doesn't pull a Tavares, and if he does, hope the next year McDavid pulls one too.

Regardless covid f'ed us hard, we had a solid cap gameplan, it went south, no one say this coming.

So, you have to make a change somewhere. And we'll see it, since this was very close to last years team at the LEAST. There will be some sort or change.

Keefe fighting for the sake of fighting with the respect line, good on him defending the boys, but guess what? Same result. 6 years. 6 years isn't a process. 6 years is failure.

Isnt that always the case good cap situation or bad??

Imagine a team that is super disciplined in the regular season lead the playoffs in infractions committed, to have to face multiple 5-on-3's. It's a racket, and until the refs issue is resolved, the league isn't going to see a single nickel from me.
I second this. Whatever, Wherever make this known if you’re on board. B lister celebrities, A lister celebrities, talk about this. I want Bettman’s bosses to know they’re losing money because they bite 7 hands that feed them.

Time for significant changes.......this style of play does not work in the playoffs. Full stop.

I'm all for bringing in Trotz or someone that preaches defense and hard work first. Rocket Trophies be damned.
This style of play will never work in the salary cap era.

Why?

You simply can’t build and hold together an overwhelming offence first team as you can’t pay the individual players enough due to the cap constraints.
