I don't think Florida can expect to goose egg our top 5 players for the rest of the season, so I am not too worried.

Bob's saves on the early PKs and on Matthews breakaway were essentially the turning point. Samsanov wasn't great but we still were the better team overall.

I am not 100% certain Gio should be in the line up right now.
Agreed. Give Gus an opportunity, or at least go with an 11/7 lineup with Gus replacing ZAR, thereby cutting Gio's minutes down.

Imagine spending thousands and thousands of dollars to just hate a specific team.

That’s honestly just sad.
You know, I don't think it's sad. It's the sort of thing that proves we really are the centre of the hockey universe and you gotta respect the commitment to the bit. It's wacky stuff like this that makes being a sports fan so much fun.

Look at the pictures again, they're laughing and having a good time. When conversations move online the nuance dies and everyone gets all butthurt about stuff for no good reason. Having heels in the stands give the fans around someone to banter with. They've got seasons tickets and a massive jersey collection, they're clearly huge hockey fans, what's the point of getting upset about a little trolling?

Leafs were the better team last night and while Bobrovsky played good, I thought he was lucky on a ton of leafs chances. The Leafs will win if they give another effort like that tomorrow. It was refreshing to see them outplay their opponent after being the better team 1/6 games in the first round.

Couple of things I would like to see fixed:

- Keefe needs to tell McCabe to cool it with the pinches. He has been making incredibly risky pinches all playoffs and it cost them on the 3rd and 4th Panthers goals. The 3rd goal in particular was just a completely boneheaded play

- Giordano needs less minutes. He looked so slow last night. I wouldn't be opposed to getting Gustafsson back in the lineup to take away some load from Gio and even McCabe. Going 11/7 and having Kerfoot and Kampf as your 10th and 11th forwards isn't so bad.

- I'll give Samsonov a pass after his stellar Game 6 last series but I would like to see him keep it to 2 goals or less next game.

The dude can flat out play. He's had excellent play driving metrics his entire career. Not just a finisher by any means.
Imagine looking at those 2010s Sharks teams packed full of playoff chokers and deciding the guys the young Leafs needed to 'lead' them were the kings of playoff no show - Marleau and then Thornton and not Pavelski.

I say that bit tongue in cheek, no idea if Pavelski would have came here and obviously Thornton was a league min guy when he was here. Still, it bugs me they brought in vets who's playoff careers were defined by failure and indifference to be leaders on young Leafs teams searching for playoff success.

Playoff hockey is a game of mistakes. Florida capitalized on the mistakes we made. Credit to them on that. I don't think we're going to have to score 5 every night to win, but we certainly generated enough chances to make that game interesting, despite playing sloppy at times.

Florida is an opportunistic squad, with 1 exceptionally hard line to play against. Our shutdown pair was not up for the task last night, and they got rinsed as a result.

Overall I am happy with the effort. Felt like we couldn't get a break all game long. Bob was fantastic. Hopefully that doesn't become a trend.

If we clean up the amount of transition chances we allow, FLA will not be able to keep up with us. I mean no disrespect by that, they played a very solid road game last night, I just feel like we dictated play far more in that opening game loss than we did at any point in the TB series, with the lone exception of game 2.

It's a long series. No reason to hit the panic button yet

Unlike game 1 against Tampa Bay, we played more than well enough to win last night. Bobrovsky stood on his head and Samsonov looked a bit shaky after his injury in warmups. Hopefully it's nothing serious that will linger and affect his game. Otherwise, I wouldn't be afraid to put Woll in.

We need to continue to press offensively next game and capitalize on our opportunities more often.

Brodie needs to step up as well. He made a crucial error on the go ahead goal when we had momentum on our side.

Whereas the other option is to continue putting Gio out there. Maybe the other 4 dmen could pick up those extra minutes.

Haha. So true!
The strategy did work in Game 6 vs Tampa. Game 2 vs Florida might be a different matter entirely though. Going back to 11/7 is potentially another option as well (with either of Gustafsson or Holl drawing in depending upon need-offence/PP vs defence/PK).

That would be the only way I would consider putting Holl back in, by going with 11/7.

Judging by some of the weird takes in this thread, there are people who would say 'yes'.

Don't feed the trolls.
I should have added a winky face or something. I was going for some of that internet sarcasm...It has not hit with everyone lol.

It's a simple 1 on 1 with Verghaeghe if Brodie didn't go for the puck. Leafs were in a fine position even with McCabe joining the rush, but Brodie made a poor decision in the end
Yep if Brodie decides to drop back here.......

instead of going after the puck as last man back, at worst its a 2 on 1 with O'Reilly providing back pressure.

By this point he changes his mind and gets caught in no man's land.

They were outplayed in the three games in Tampa but found a way to win all 3. Let's see what the next two away games bring because your guess is better than mine.
In your opinion, have the Leafs outplayed the other team in any game this season, regular or playoffs?

Dubas really missed an opportunity to add depth beyond the default 12/6 group. Now Keefe is forced to choose two of Gio, Holl, Gus & Timmons when none of these four should be regulars in the lineup. An argument for Gus can be made against a speed demon like NJ or if Rielly failed on PP1 but the rest are inexcusable.

Up front, choosing two or three from: ZAR, Lafferty, Kerfoot, Jarnkrok, Simmonds

Keefe can be blamed for some of the matchup but he can't be blamed for the roster.
