What makes all this in between play nonsense acceptable in hockey, but not in football Aussie rules football, rugby or any other sport?
Precisely. They only engage in these junevile tactics because the refs allow it and they believe it gives them an edge. In the grand scheme of things it's not particularly courageous when a guy like Maroon double teams a player or Foote grabs a guy from behind in a blowout game. It reflects poorly on the league, players and team.

This allows fans of other sports to wonder why the NHL allows players to act in ways that would send you to prison if done in the streets. Prevents many parents from encouraging their kids get into hockey.

Guys are forced to stand up for themselves, that's what is needed dealing with bullies and cowards. Players like Clifford and Simmonds are engaged because the league has refused to protect their players. This lack of protection is why Kadri was suspended twice when the refs wouldn't reign in the dirty Bruins.

This also reflects on Cooper as a Coach too tbh. As a man who can't control his players. Docile and submissive to their actions, probably encouraging it.

Look at what Sutter did when he took over the Flames. He wants pests in Matthew T and Lucic, but he doesn't want goons and fools. He has his players under control as they respect him.

if the refs take one clown out of the scrum and gives them a penalty, especially when they are punching a player in the back of the head as was done to Bunting last night, it would put an end to this immature behavior. Otherwise, teams need to stock up on such players and meet them in the alley. Only out of necessity.

You'd think after so many decades the NHL would get it right and become more of a global sport in the process and not remain on the fringes outside of Canada and a few U.S markets.

Looked like everybody had a dance partner. When Nylander finally got one, he found him to ugly and by then the dance was over.

Not every player is a fighter, and that must be ok. Nylander cant be the only one on this team who rather dont fight?
I’d rather Willy be available to play a shift in the potential 4 on 4 situation that would arise from this than having him sit in the box for being the 3rd guy in a scrum.
Also to me it looked like he was hanging around Kallgren making sure NO foolishness occurred to the goaler

I think Marner may give Kutcherov some trouble after being kicked.
He looked pretty upset. Don't see Mitch like that very often. This team hasn't played angry a day in its life but I hope it can channel some anger from being blown off the ice and their star player cheaped like that.

An angry Marner is a Marner I want to see. That emotion will kill nerves like nothing else. Might even get through a series with no pucks over the glass this time.

It's easy to write off this game, and obviously 9 times out of 10 the Leafs would play way better.

But its obvious that Tampa said they're gonna play dirty to win and it worked.

Yes this team has more pushback than past teams but it still raises the question mark if they have enough of it.

Everyone on Tampa gets involved in the chippy/dirtiness. Even guys like Palat throw their bodies around.

I saw Engvall shove someone so maybe they're kinda getting there? But they'll need way more of it in the playoffs. We're gonna get a crap ref in the playoffs, especially in elimination games, and whoever we play will try to goon it up. It's going to happen. They need to be better prepared to dish it out and be sneaky dirty too.

And yes, it's a harder mountain for the Leafs to climb because the league will suspend the Leafs for things they won't suspend other teams for. They gotta push through that somehow. The cards are stacked against them and they have to find a way.

So here's me question. Is pushback thr answer? There was clearly a different set of rules last night. There was clearly a different set of rules for us v. Boston.

Does this team lack push back or does it lack composure?

Not sure how you can call them ridiculous takes when you consider the history of this core's performances in the playoffs. I liked that they showed some fight at least.

Game 77 of 82 in April isn't in anyway indicative of what's going to happen 2 weeks from now.

Trying to make analogies between last night and this core's struggles in the postseason, is misguided & inappropriate.

This is the most fortitude and pushback we've seen from a Maple Leafs team since the Orr/McLaren days.

I'm not sure how composure has anything to do with it.

Imagine being as bad as you are at your job like the goons at the DoPS and keeping it.

That's fair to say. It's a different year. Just hope everyone is healthy and ready to go for the first round.

First period I was telling my son that it would be hilarious to beat Tampa in their building with Matthews, Cambell, Muzzin, and Sandin out of the line-up.

That Orr team lost in the first round, right?

Keefe and Matthews clearly didn't treat this as a big game, so neither did the rest of the team.

Unfortunately TB, the champs, knew better.

Really really really dumb decisions made by the Leafs here.

Really really dumb.

Their puck battles, positioning and gap control was non existent. Was almost like watching the little kids play and they are floating around everywhere.🤣
Seems like it was almost like they didn't want Tampa to see any of their new or revised schemes...hmmmm
