Tanev needs to fully heal before even considering a return. His LENGTHY injury history, especially during his time in Vancouver, tells me that he might not last if he returns too soon.

Also, he might not make it through an extended playoff run, so that's why a number 1 D-man should have been acquired instead of Carlo.

And yes, I know how hard it is to pry top players from other teams.

JMHO.
OEL is visible wearing down too, it’ll be a miracle if he isn’t soap by the Start of the playoffs…….

Maybe that's what it takes for management to finally make a significant change.

I DO NOT believe Marner should be the one to go. But that is the spot they have put themselves in.
It's crazy to think the guy who's been the best player most nights this season is the one to remove.

Absolute horrible efforts from Rielly and Laughton .. it looked like they were on da other team .. common gents .. pathetic in da worst way possible .. Rielly gave away da puck 11 freakin times which directly led to 2 goals against .. take da hit dude and man up for f*ck sakes .. eat da puck if you don't have a play .. and Laughton common you lost 5 puck battles and you made a horrific decision in a tie game late when you turned away from Mack to give him a 1 on 1 with stolly .. absolute garbage hockey and absolutely not worth a 1st rounder .. in fact he might have to be taken out of lineup entirely .. BRUTAL BRUTAL BRUTAL
That was brutal, not often I yell at the tv but I did there.
I'd like to think he'll be better going forward.

First game together for both teams, while one was at home.

Avs were obviously highly favored to win that game.

2 empty net goals make the result look worse.

Funny thing is Leafs outshot them in the third and give up 1 even strength goal.

Avs 1 for 3 on the PP, Leafs 1 for 1.

Just a loss against a favorite.
Denver is always a difficult place to play as a visitor due to the elevation. Kinda surprised at all the hand wringing going on around here after this loss.

He understands, but thinks it's interesting but not productive.

Unfortunately, his current inflated contract ends at the end of this season. So, if changes are to be made to this failed core, it is him that might have to go this summer.

Now, if it were up to me, I'd ask Matthews, Nylander, and Rielly, to also consider waiving their NMV clauses in order to see what other changes could be made via blockbuster trades.

Tavares should be told that he might be re-signed by puck drop next season unless he takes a deal of $4-5M early. $7M is not enough of a discount for an aging player that is soon to become a 3rd line centre.

Now, if our Leafs make a deep run in the upcoming playoffs, then a re-tool might not be needed this summer. However, to stay Leafs, both Tavares, and especially your boy Marner, BOTH still need to sign reasonable new deals in favor of our Leafs. It's long time coming that they enable our Leafs to add much better support players.

Another true number one D-man, and a 2nd line centre are still needed on this team.

JMHO.
