Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 5-4 in OT | Lead series 2-1

Either way, Willy or Knies should have buried those OT breakaways.
I've got a lot of admiration for what Willy has done in the last few games, and generally.

He was dogass in the 3rd and OT.

Save for that one partial breakaway where he brought the puck down and could've ended it.

Now is precisely when winning Game 2 comes in handy. It's also perfectly fine to think that this game was one which unfortunately slipped away.

He’s gotta just not play the game like he’s got his head up his ass. There was just a lot of sloppy and unfocused play from Woll, including playing the puck awfully. Truly displayed some dick head level goaltending.
Honestly, the ability to play the puck and act as a 6th puck handler back there the get the breakout started, or get the puck out from behind the net is so underrated.

And, as much as the media is hollaring about how we have two great goalies, it is clear to me that Stolarz is better in every way other than age.

The mess with the puck in our own zone tonight was eye opening... Woll should just not play it and leave it to the D. It is not worth the chaos that comes from it. If the D know they are playing it, they can prepare on the approach rather than trying to react to whatever happens.

Anyway, that is one thing... he clearly needs to just focus on stopping the puck.

Woll deserves criticism but man it’s a bit harsh right now.

I wish he’d gotten into the the Ottawa series. The Leafs had a good rotation going and just sticking with Stolie has had gotten Woll out of rhythm. A bit of deer in headlights right now.
This was his 3rd game, he's had plenty of time to find his rhythm.

He can’t use his greatest asset from the all the years of his career, his shot, for whatever reason. I seriously doubt it’s mental, whatever it is wrist, back who knows? Didn’t go to Germany for a brain scan I don’t think. Still doggedly contributing, not as much in the way we’d all like , but giving his all

With absolutely no inside knowledge all I can tell you is I severely pulled my forearm right above the inside of my elbow over a year ago and it still isn’t right. It would feel fine for a week then I would twist it a certain way and I couldn’t even hold a broom for days. My bottom 2 fingers would just releass It hurt to hold a coffe cup.

My guess is it is going to be something like that. It’s fine. Then he pushes it and it flares up and he can’t use it.

It’s the only reason he can skate. Take draws, stick handle but had no torque on his shot.

The breakaway is a direct product of the biggest problem with Willy - he is always only looking for the offense.
He will float in the defensive zone always looking for a quick out and scoring chance.

There is usually 100% effort offensively, and 0% effort defending.

And those percentages are not of his potential ability, no those percentages are that of whatever effort level he decides to exert in the game.

Some games he's all gas.
Some games he's just out for a skate.

Can't even think back to a game that Willy was just ok, because he's either lights out or abysmal.

Chief is going to chew him out something fierce for ducking a hit in the 2nd period, and that final shift.

IMO when Woll is at his best he plays a cleaner game than Stolarz and is better with swallowing up rebounds. Stolarz has a size advantage though and the puck handling is no comparison between the two.

Still f***ing steamed about the loss. and it had to be that f***ing rat who scored

GEBJHe_W0AAuskV
14th playoff game winning goal he scored. Leads all active NHL players.

We have to acquiesce to the fact that Matthews just isn’t the guy. Win or lose, superstars at least make an impact on the scoresheet.

I can see that... I don't think we have that Woll right now though. He is all over the place.
So, going to have to struggle ahead. Even with what he offered up tonight the team had a chance to win that game.

It's part of the reason I'm REALLY afraid of the team deciding to put the entirety of the offense on him and Matthews. Because if Matthews' wrist really is permanently screwed, it's going to look BAD for us...

He literally had 2 assists.

I agree he isn’t his standard. But he has 2 goals and 10pts I think in 9 games.

He definitely needs to be better

Yeah I expect it’s arm related, so many misses, posts and looks that would have been in and out for years, no more tennis til you freaking retire.

If you told me we'd be up 2-1 in the 2nd round, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat...we’re in a good position.
Even thought they’re lucky to up 2-1 Im content knowing they are competitive in the 2nd round.

This is why I wasn’t worried about the 4 year term.

Matthews won’t age well. I say we get 3 years out of him, flip him where he wants to go.

We have the version of Woll who lost his job to Samsonov.

Ohhhh tennis elbow. Isn’t he huge into tennis? Definitely stop that.

Just remember, where there’s a a Woll there’s a way. We still win this series in 5 then hopefully get a healthy Stolarz back for round 3.

The issue is he has two goals. 2.

He's 9th on the team in goals. Considering he's being paid a lot of money to be the team's primary goal scorer, being outscored by the entire rest of the top 6 plus two defenseman is really, really bad.
