Fans sure were wrong about Sparks hunh, what a career he's having.
Yeah, things dont always work out. doesnt mean you dont give the young goalie a chance to keep an old guy. I mean if its the starter its one thing but a backup is another. obviously in hindsight would have gone the other direction.

Leafs are like 9–2-2 in their last 13 and you people are complaining.

you all can’t be this stupid. Some of you it’s obvious. But most? Cmon now.

this.

their goalie set a record with 11 straight wins that ended only a couple of games ago, lol!! During the streak, he was a Vézina and Hart trophy lock and now he’s a total bust and an AHL backup.

Man, being a leafs fan is hard sometimes

I mean you can be concerned about his body language handling the losses without thinking he's trash. Beating himself up over goals isn't a good sign going into the playoffs.

How about men without necks?

but only if you dance safely

Only the 3rd time this year we lost by 3 goals....and they needed an empty netter to get there.

We have yet to lose a game by more than 3gls.

Do they give out a trophy for fewest games lost by 3 goals? I know the leafs are favorites to win the North and make it to the cup but is that really your take on this game??

Just making a statement. Campbell takes responsibility. Marner says sh-t happens. Hyman battles, does what every player on that team should be doing when the other team hacks & whacks ya all game with no fear of retaliation. Players on that team better pay his fine & apologize for their lack of b_lls.

its fair to have some worry if Campbell isnt the starter we thought and was just on a heater.
however. no reason to give him a hard time moving forward. guy is great and if he doesnt turn out to be that starter we hope. I would love to have him as our backup. I'd still protect him in the expansion draft.

Yeah, I hope he doesn't take these things too hard. only going to put pressure on himself. he's gotta have a clear mind
He must know we like him and a series of rough games isn't going to change that.
after setting those records even if things go south I can see people praising him for that for a long time in Toronto.
but every popular team comes with haters and I hope he doesn't take them seriously

All comes with being the center of the hockey universe.

Imagine we were Tampa?

5-6 their last 11 including getting blown out by Detroit 5-1 and Nashville 7-2. (Big deadline pickup Savard with gong show of a game)

Still a cup favorite but the nooses would be out around here.

How about the Isles?

They have basically been as bad on the PP as the Leafs since March 1st (after being above average the first couple months skirting the top ten) but no mention of their PP troubles in the media every single game on every PP they have.

Speaking of the Isles, how amazing is Barzal right? One of the best young centers in the game in his prime who only has positive threads on the main board. Much better than that overpaid regressing Tavares!

Oh wait. Tavares has the same amount of points and more goals in less minutes played.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

I don't know if that's true. Marners defensive numbers decrease quite a bit when he's not with Matthews from things I've seen/read and people use him being on the PK as him being a better defender but our PK is ranked in the bottom 5 so I don't think that's a good argument.
our powerplay is also trash so that means all the players on it are bad offensively? Thats a terrible argument. Marner is better than Matthews defensively but Matthews is a C so he has more responsibility defensively., so it would make sense that Marners defensive numbers go down when he plays with a lesser C. Matthews defensive numbers would go down too without Marner.

This post is a 0/10

Since that decision:

McElhinney .904sv%
Sparks .901sv%

Since that decision:

60 NHL regular season games played, 31 wins, and 5 NHL playoff games and 3 playoff wins.

21 NHL regular season games played, 8 wins and a 6 game stint in the ECHL.

These two posts are a wonderful example of how you can use stats to support just about any agenda you choose. There are so many stats out there, look hard enough and you can almost always find numbers to support your agenda. That is, as long as the people reading are gullible enough to take your numbers at face value.

Look at the first post by Zeke and it doesn't seem like there's much difference between the two goalies. Add the context provided by Stephen and the picture changes completely.

Numbers don't lie, and stats can be a very useful tool. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the time when people post stats here, it's cherrypicked numbers in support of agenda so ... reader beware.

Next weeks games against the Jets should be interesting. Sabourin and Simmonds better be busy. Let Hyman take care of Pionk

Who needs context when you can just throw out meaningless numbers?

Yeah the difference is that one isn't in the NHL now and the other shouldn't be.

Campbell breaks a record for most wins to start a season in a row. Loses 1? And now everyone’s shitting on him. Maybe some of you need to stop watching hockey cause it’s not rookie mode in nhl 20 like you’re used too
They are? Or did a handful of people comment that he has had a couple of bad outings?

Well, if you're going to look deeper than just a single number, you're really not fighting fairly. Please stick to one number when debating the effectiveness of a player. :sarcasm:

At 38, Curtis McBackup is near the end of his useful service life as an NHL goalie but there's no reason to point this out unless someone is trying to make excuses over a very small roster decision that ended up hurting Toronto in 2018-19.

McE had an OK year in Carolina and now two awful years in Tampa.

Criticizing the decision to let him go is silly.

To clarify for posterity, we needed McBackup in 2018-19 because he would have been a more reliable backup for Sparks, helped us get higher in the standings potentially and keep Andersen fresher for the playoff run we could have gone on. What McBackup has done the past two years is hardly relevant.

McElhinney was a mediocre backup that year.

To clarify further, Andersen played 6 fewer games in 18-19 than he did in either year McElhinney was his backup, and it's unlikely mcelhinney would have closed the 7pt gap with bottom to give us home ice in round 1 and zero chance he would have closed the 28pt gap with tbay to change our first round opponent.
