Leafs need a culture of hating to lose. None of the Core 4 have ever really showed that and it shows in the results unfortunately.
Wouldn’t say all but they aren’t Nate dog that’s for sure

Whenever you get a new coach you get that initial push. The Berube effect is wearing off. This is with Tanev out last year's team. It's time to make a major trade and I think Reilly is that guy. We don't have the pieces to play the style Berube wants and this isn't a contender. Don't resign Tavares we haven't done anything yet.

If we could trade Rielly and get something else that would be amazing

We don’t and our 5v5 numbers are not good offensively even tho we have probably 3 of the top 20 players in the game. Just because Carolina has doesn’t mean squat concerning the leafs. We are trying to put a square peg in a round hole here.
If you can’t see the struggles we have offensively here I don’t know what to say except Merry Christmas :)
Yes - we've scored 69 goals 5on5 this year (16th most) and given up 56 (3rd fewest). Not good.

I wish.

Shanahan maybe but I’m convinced we’re stuck with this core until they either retire or walk voluntarily.

Better strap yourself in for the next decade.
I think they’re content with that - being in a playoff race every year has its benefits. They still market themselves as one of the best teams in Canada even though they’re probably the 5 th best.

The leafs have always managed to screw anything up, whether it’s a hire, a trade a free agent signing. I expect another 50 years of misery and ineptitude.

For the 11000th time. Rielly has a NMC. He’s not going anywhere unless he wants to, and that’s highly unlikely

I think Nylander has that fire but I’m not sure about the other guys. Of course it affects them but I do think they lack that drive overall that guys like MacKinnon, Crosby, Kucherov, McDavid etc possess.

Yup, None of Matthews, Marner, Nylander or Tavares are going anywhere anytime soon. Throw Rielly in that mix, also.

Once he’s asked he’d probably be OK with a move, especially to a possible contender.

It’s an easy market to play in with no media pressure and they’re shielded from everything and everyone else and they’re paid well. Management seems content where they are and money makes the city palatable to live in.

Yup. To my mind, the media in this city, although there may be many of them in number, are some of the softest in all of professional sports. For instance, they all know what Matthews' injury is, and yet no one says a word.

Tough to win without your best defenceman, best scorer, and best goalie. Made tougher when Nylander and Marner were invisible. Woll wasn’t to blame but he wasn’t great and he had to be. His rebound control awful. Timmins sucks so bad, we can’t go into the playoffs with this guy.
Watched this game again:

Regarding Marner and Willy:

This was a choppy game, neither team seemed to be able to sustain the zone for long.

Nylander had 2 assists and was a plus 1. He also had plenty of chances 5v5 and created the Leafs only 5v5 goal.

Marner caused both the first two goals against and put Toronto in the 2-0 hole.

Goal against #1) lost his man and received a hooking penalty, leading to the first PP goal against.

Goal against #2) Marner with his favorite offensive play, switch with D give and go wrist shot from the blueline that was easily blocked by a Jets player who took the puck and scored on the ensuing 2 vs 1 (With Marner defending).

Marner also gave the puck away on the PP which led to a 2 vs 1 incredible save by Woll.

He was giving the puck away all the time on the PP.

Marner wouldve been a -1 but his line scored thanks to Nylander being put on his line and creating a goal, with no help from Marner.

Marner had a breakaway but was caught from behind...which actually happens often to him.

Close match, but just like the playoffs Marners high-risk style creating more chances for the opposition than his own team and might very cost the team in this game.

One of the few games Marner mails in. Great secondary assist on the Tavares ENG thanks to the galaxy braining Pat Roy.

He didnt mail it in, it was Marner being Marner. Exact same plays that have been killing us in the playoffs for years.

There isnt a player on this roster that creates more opportunities for the opposition. Remember his 2 turnovers vs the ducks that ended up in our net? He had a 3rd that required the Leaf goalie to kake a sensational save. Leading to the infamous time out where Keefe pointed at Marner and put up 2 fingers indicating 2 turnovers...which led to Marner taking the stick into the tunnel and apparently assaulting it? And of course his one shift benching.

These turnovers dont happen nearly as regularly for the other "core 4" members. Or anyone else on the roster.

Also he had a nice feed on the PP, leading to Tavares goal. But Marner was a turnover machine for the rest of the PPs. May have had 2 or 3 goals without him.
